Her scars
are horrid,
massive things
stretching along her body.
But
she doesn't hide them.
She doesn't grow bangs
to cover her forehead.
She doesn't wear jeans
to cover her legs.
Instead
she smiles.
And somehow
she
is
beautiful.
My mind tells me that this is
impossible,
but my eyes smile and say
it's not.
This girl
with horrific
ugly
scars
is beautiful.
When she smiles at me,
her whole face
lights up.
Her hair is a brown
in-between color.
Her eyes
are hazel.
She has freckles
on her face.
She leads me upstairs,
to her bedroom,
a drops my suitcase
on the floor.
Then
she turns
and smiles
again
and says
I'm so glad you're here;
we're going to have so much fun!
I almost believe her.
But
if a girl covered in scars
is more beautiful
than me,
how can I
not
feel self-conscious?
And how
can I have fun
when I'm upset?
