Andy’s POV

We reached the docks at about 2 o’clock in the afternoon. “Hello ladies and gentlemen. Please leave your things where they are and our crew will take them to your new rooms. Your headmistress will meet you outside on the docks.” The captain said before turning off the loudspeaker. I looked at Christina and shrugged. I grabbed my backpack and placed the letter my father left me along with my photos, iPhone, money, and camera in the bag before following the crowds off the boat. There were about 150 girls and 150 boys in total. It was a relatively small school compared to all the public ones near me.

We were all brought before a make shift stage where a woman stood. She wore a grey suit jacket with a skirt and black heels. Her hair was pulled back and she had a smile on her face. She gave off the air that she was a very nice woman who would act like a second mother.

“Welcome to Hurdor High School.” She said in a sweet voice. “I am your headmistress, Mrs. Meyers. We are thankful for taking the long journey to come and learn at our wonderful school. The main island, which you see behind me, is where all of your classes will be held and where meals will be eaten. The boys and girls will room separately in houses that have been assigned.”

“Damn.” Kyle said annoyed.

“What? You knew we weren’t going to live together.” I said confused. He shook his head telling me to drop it.

“Off to my left are four piers where all of the houses are. The piers are coed and the houses will be alternating in gender. You will find your house number, key, roommate’s names, and schedule on the folders our staff will hand out to you at the front of each pier. Please use the rest of this day to walk around and relax. Breakfast starts at 7:30 and it is not mandatory.” She said smiling as she walked off. I grabbed Christina’s hand and pulled her towards the second pier.

“Andromeda Connor and Christina Williams.” I told the lady standing in front of a bunch of folders. She grumbled and looked through to box in front of her. She pulled out our corresponding yellow envelopes and handed them to us.

“Thanks!” I said smiling at her as we walked onto the dock.

“So what house do you have?” I asked looking through the contents of my envelope.

“Um, 21.” She said.

“Awesome! So do I and according to this sheet so does Gerry.” I said pulling her along to house 21.

All the wooden houses were the same and the only thing that differed were the gold numbers on each door. We made it to our house and I used my key to unlock it. It was simple but beautiful. When we walked in there was our own kitchen to our left, at the end of the hall was the living room. To our right was a staircase with a door underneath it. We heard footsteps as they walked down the stairs and a girl came into view.

“Gerry!” I said hugging my friend. “Andy! Christina! I missed you guys!” She said. Gerry was beautiful. She had almost golden brown hair that fell in soft curls down to her chest and amazing blue-grey eyes.

“Come on I’ll show you out rooms.” Christina and I followed her up the stairs to where three rooms were. Each room had one of our names on it signifying whose room it was.

“The rooms are so amazing and Andy, yours has a balcony!” My eyes widened and I ran into my room. I gasped it was so pretty. It was painted an amazing turquoise color with white trim and a white carpet. The bed was a swing bed that hung from the ceiling. There were two glass doors that opened to show the ocean. It was so beautiful. I walked out onto the wooden balcony and closed my eyes. I took a deep breath smelling the salty air and listened to the sounds of the waves hitting the pier and the rocks. The laughter and talk of my peers all blurred together creating a cacophony of voices.
