As I started on the staircase, I was a bit nervous I didn't know how my legs would handle it, But after about thirty stairs or so I was pretty confident they could. I climbed the first 3 stories each of which consisting of 13 stairs per a story. At the four story I saw an anomaly. The door was older, metal it looked heavy and it wasn't closed it was open a hair just enough for me to see inside. There were lights all seeming to blink at regular intervals the longest would stay on for twenty-five seconds some you could barely tell had turned on at all,It was oddly hypnotic. I walked into the room to see what was producing all the colors in such a pleasing manor. When I stepped on a tile about 20 paces into the room and it lit up. I fell back, the light was so bright it felt as if my eyes had been staring at a oxygen acetylene welder for the last ten minutes. I stumbled all the way back against the wall of the room holding my eyes hoping the pain would go away.
It took a while but slowly my eyes stopped hurting and readjusted to the room. The machine was still blinking but it seemed to be fallowing a different pattern now one of frantic quick flashes fallowed by long periods of it not doing anything at all. Slowly light began to creep into the room from a door on the other side of the machine, I could now see the outline of the machine it was humongous It was at least 30 feet wide and about 12 feet tall.
" What happened to my machine", I could hear him dancing around in the darkness getting closer than farther, he sounds to have come to a rest in front of the machine what happens now?
I heard the AOL boot up sound "good damn I wish we had broadband". Then a screen popped out of the computer displaying a diagram of the room he was highlighted in blue and the corner where I was, was highlighted red. The man who's features could kind of make out with the light of the computer was short just under five feet or so with a sharp nose and a very slim body build.
He jumped around staring at the corner I was sitting in "come out with your hand's up no one except me is allowed in here". Slowly I rose from the corner putting my hand up as instructed and walked toward him.
Short Guy - Whats your name?
I decided it best to answer his questions I had only been here a short while and didn't want to make enemies. "Robert Harb what's yours?"
Short guy - "no I'm asking the questions here." He made a sniffing sound "now what are you trying to do to my machine"
"I don't know I just saw it and it was so visually pleasing I had to go see what it was" The machine was back to the old pattern(at least it was as far as I could tell).
He started to hop closer to me I'm not sure what he wants planning on do but I decided to stay and find out. As he approached me he slug a backpack off of his shoulders and started to rummage around in it. He pulled out a long stick looking object and held it out above my head. It beeped a few time and me pulled it back to himself. He mumbled something under his breath "your the new guy aren't you"
"yeah I've only been awake for a day at most"
He sighed" I guess your young in this business and still stupid look this is my room you do not come in here unless I give you a personal invitation".
He looked at me as a parent who was correcting a child would do "now repeat after me this no my stuff me no go in there."
"i'm not an idiot"
"yes you are, now repeat this no my stuff me no go in there"
I stared at him in disbelief I wonder if they treat all of the new people like this?
Short guy - "if you don't say it I will not let you leave this room
I sighed as loudly as I feasibly could to show how displeased I was(I hope he caught on) "This no my stuff me no go in there"
He looked pleased "good the door is there" he pointed
I fallowed along the wall and eventually found the door. that was one of the less strange encounters that I had while I ascended the stairs....
there were thirteen stairs per a story encase you forgot.
