Awkward

I stared out of the window of Mark's car and sighed. He looked over at me. "You okay?" he asked.

"If fine," I snapped slightly. We stopped at a light and he looked at me.

"Eight years and you still think you can lie to me." He looked away sadly and sighed.

He pointed to the glove box. "If you wanna play some music, there's an aux cord in there." I reached forward and found the cord. "The ride's gonna be kinda long and I know you like music." I nodded and plugged it into the stereo.

I searched through my music and found Chop Suey! by System of A Down. I grinned and hit play. Mark chuckled and started head banging slightly. I smiled and leaned my head on the window. He tried singing and mumbled the fast parts.

I watched the stars and sighed. "___?"  I looked over at him and turned the music down. "How've you been since..." he cut himself off.

I pursed my lips and looked at the dash board. "I've been fine. Working in my channel and whatnot." He nodded and turned onto the interstate. I turned the volume back up.

We drove in silence for about 45 minutes before he turned the volume on the stereo back down. "___..." I cut him off.

"Mark, please. I spent the past eight years thinking that I did something so wrong in the years we didn't see each other that you hated me." He stared out of the windshield sadly. "What happened? Why do that, especially after taking me to the fair and spending so much time with me?"

He stared out of the window. "I-I can't talk about it right now." I rolled my eyes and turned the music back up.

We rode on for another 2 hours before he turned onto an exit. "The hotel is up here. VidCon is down the road. Wade, Jack, and Bob should be there already waiting for us." He pulled into a hotel parking lot and stopped.

I stepped out of his car and went to get a luggage cart. Mark opened the trunk as I pushed the cart towards him. We loaded up the cart and he pushed it into an elevator. "___, you'll be in the room conjoined with the room I'll be staying in with Wade and Bob. You and Jack will be in the other room."

I nodded and stood there clutching the bar on the wall. I was always terrified of elevators. The doors opened and we stepped out. "This way," he said, leading me towards a door. He took out two cards and handed me one. "All my bags are already in there. I got here earlier today. Go unpack your stuff."

I unlocked the door and Jack ran out. "___!" he shouted as he tackled my into a hug. I grinned and hugged him back.

"Hey, Jacky!" He helped me get my bags in and I started unpacking. "When did you get here?" I asked him. He shrugged and flopped down on a bed.

"Some time today." I nodded and sat cross legged against the head board of the other bed. We watched TV and talked for a while before we both got tired.

I stood and grabbed my pajamas. "I'm gonna take a quick shower." He stood and stretched.

"Okay. I might be asleep when you get out." I grinned and closed the bathroom door behind me, locking it.

I quickly took a shower and got out, drying off and getting dressed. As I walked out of the bathroom, Jack walked by, making me jump.

"Jesus, Jack!" He laughed and hugged me.

"Sorry, ___. Didn't mean to scare you." I jokingly sniffled and pouted.

"Scary..." He chuckled and let go of me. "I'm gonna lay down," I told him. He nodded and walked over to his bed. "'Night, Jacky," I yawned.

I heard him turn over toward the wall. "'Night, ___."

Tomorrow's gonna be awkward.
