The Bat and The Bird

Robin and Lilac woke at the same time and decided to check on the team. They were all passed out on the couches still, except for Aqualad, who was quietly cleaning the room.

"Hey Cal" Robin said quietly as he smiled and leaned against the doorframe. Cal Durham was Aqualad's real name. He smiled softly and raised a hand in salutation to the two. Liliac gave him her signature casual salute.

"Wanna ditch these losers and get some real food?" Robin yawned. Liliac nodded and Cal gave him a strange look.

"What do you mean by 'real food'?" Cal questioned skeptically

"Just you wait" Liliac grinned.

"Okay. I think this is the best idea you've ever had. Ever" Aqualad smiled as he continued eating his stack of pancakes.

They had gone to the towns local breakfast restaurant and were treating themselves to quite the breakfast meal. The table was filled with fruits and pancakes and waffles and eggs and bacon and sausage and biscuits and sauces.

"Good thing Wally isn't here" Robin chuckled

"Oh, if he found out we were here he'd never forgive us" Liliac agreed

"I still don't get how he eats so much"

"Fast metabolism" Robin and Liliac replied in unison

"I forgot, I'm out to breakfast with Robin and Girl Robin" Cal rolled his eyes playfully

"Excuse me! I came first! It's Lily and Boy Lily!" Liliac protested

"You may have come first in the Batman world, but I was on this team before you!" Robin countered

"Well now I'm on it too, so I'm the original" Liliac said with a tone of finality.

"If I'd've just been born a year earlier" Robin grumbled as they continued to eat their meal.

"I have a feeling this happens often" Cal chuckled

"You have no idea how hard headed he is. Too bad there isn't too much in there to protect" Liliac sassed with a grin on her face.

"Lily! At least I've got adequate social skills!" He stuck his food-covered tongue out at her

"Just because I'm smarter than you doesn't mean I'm socially inept! And that's disgusting Robin" Liliac rolled her eyes

"Oh goodness. You two sound like Artemis and Kid" Cal laughed

"No we don't!" Robin protested

"Yeah their arguments aren't even based on anything relatively solid. It's just an excuse to flirt with each other" Liliac said and Robin nodded in agreement, going on the say something else to back her up.

But Aqualad wasn't really listening, he was mostly watching. Aqualad had never heard Liliac talk so much in all of his life, but around Robin she talked so easily and simply. She was, infact, quite funny and witty, not her usual serious and defensive self. They complimented each other so well, probably because they had spent to much time together; blood, sweat, probably not tears, and all.

Cal smiled as he finished off his pancakes and watched his two friends interact freely and easily. He jumped in and they talked and ate until noon.

"Where were you guys?" Super Boy asked upon their entrance into the lounge

"Eating" Robin smirked

"WITHOUT ME?!" Wally nearly screamed
