“Jesus Christ! Will you look at that?” exclaimed a team member. They all rushed to the monitors to take a look. Far beyond the exclusion zone on the thermal images, lava was seen bubbling from underground.
Martin cupped his face in horror and fear. His worst nightmare had just begun. Underground caves and water channels had provided a path for the pyroclastic flows and other routes which were not in danger before would now be cut off through this new development.
They sprang into action. All concerned bodies would have to be informed including the news media to warn the populace any which way they could.
The picture was grim. The world seemed to be coming to an end. Everything was covered in fire and ash clouds, rivers were flooding with the added volume of pyroclasts, washing away bridges. Land that had appeared sturdy before was carried along on the waves created and houses which had majestically overlooked the rivers were taken along for the unplanned ride.
