Chapter 3 : Truth Hurts
For a while we both looked each other in the eye as if daring the other to look away. Finally he looked away. One point for me. I could tell he hated me from the moment he walked in but I still can't figure out why.
"Just cuz your mom is some druggie lunatic doesn't mean you can steal mine!" He spat at me.
" My mom is NOT a druggie lunatic and I have NO interest in yours!" I retorted all the while trying to keep my voice steady because it was true. My mom was and probably still is a druggiei lunatic. And sometimes, the truth hurts. I looked down at the white tiled floor trying not to look at him. How can he be so mean but yet look so annoyingly adorable? I hate myself for liking him when i'm supposed to be the hater. Like, I don't even know his name.
" Whats your name?" I interrogated. He just glared at me.
" Why should I tell YOU?" He replied.
"Cuz I hear SOMEONES mom is filling out caretaker forms." I said back to him. After a while he answered,
"Liam." I tried to hide my laugh.
" Aren't you supposed to be with One Direction or something Mr. Payne?" I joked. He gave me a glare again.
"No, so please shut your mouth Oliver, cuz my last name is Wilson." He said. Oliver? I'm not an orphan.
"The name's Leah. NOT Oliver." I stated.
" Do you have a boyfriend?" He asked with his eyes full of curiousity. I mentally slapped myself for thinking he looked adorable when he did that. Ugghh!
"No." I answered still looking at the floor. His smirk could not go unnoticed.
" Figures." He said quietly but loud enough for me to hear.
"Damn, whats your problem?" I said trying not to yell.
"You're my problem." He replied. I was about to let him have it when the doctor walked in. Why did the stupid doctor walk in when I was about to mess up Liam's pretty little face? Just then I noticed a lady walk in behind him. She was skinny and tall and had brown hair with matching brown eyes like Liam's. Probably his mom. Behind her were two little kids. A girl that looked like she was four and a boy a few years older than her, maybe sevenish. Probably his siblings. I looked at everyone then back at the doctor. I raised my eyebrows at her. She offered me an apologetic smile then left the room quickly leaving us alone. As if I needed that. For all I know they could be serial killers! Leah, chill. I took a breath and raised an eyebrow at the mom as if questioning her presence. She seemed to snap out of her thoughts.
" Oh i'm sorry I should probably greet myself." She said. Probably.
" My name is Katherine Wilson but you can call me Katy." She stated, adding a sweet (and totally pathetic) smile. I actually liked the idea of not having to call an adult by Mr. or Mrs. Whatever. But then again, that would be like acting like she's a friend or someone really close to me. I swear I felt shivers down my spine at the idea.
"No i'll just call you Mrs. Wilson." I replied with what I was hoping was a smug expression. She just pressed her lips together and nodded. Is this bitch serious? Ok, whatever, I quit. Then she started talking shit about herself that I wasn't even listening to. I mean like, I don't care about her job or where she was born or whatever. I made eye contact with Liam and rolled my eyes but all he did was squint his eyes at me. Ok, I see how it is. I tried the same eye rolling thing with the little kids and they nodded their heads and smiled. At least some people here aren't idiots. I stopped Mrs.Wilson in the middle of talking about her husband and said-
"Why did you even bother with me?" I asked all of a sudden angry for no reason.
"Because, well... you see, my daughter died of cancer a few years back and I just want to help somebody with their loss so that somebody is you." she said, tears in her eyes. A dead silence fell over the room. I feel bad for you and all lady but yo daughter ain't my problemo, I said to myself. Then I realized I was being a bitch so I just nodded the best I could at her. She stepped out of the room and her kids followed. Well except Mr. Jerk over there in the corner. If you know who I'm talkin bout. He stepped closer to the edge of the hospital bed. He had a menacing grin on his face. I squinted at him.
"What do you want?" I asked annoyed. He just smiled and stepped closer to me. Too close. The tips of our noses almost touched. I thought he was going to kiss me. My heartbeat quickened. He leaned in and whispered,
"Have a nice day shawty." Then turned and left the room. I heard him snickering. I just stared at the back of his perfect brown hair as he left. Ugg! Damn that kid! All of a sudden I felt dizzy and realized some tube was injecting sleep medicine into my arm. I fell back onto my pillow and shut my eyes as I buried myself in the sheets, dreaming of a better tommorow.
