Tyler's POV
"Brendon?" I asked, after sitting in silence for a few minutes.
"Hm?" He hummed.
"Where are we going?" I whispered.
"I don't know, hun." He sighed. "I can drop you off at your place, and I should have enough cash to stay a few weeks at a hotel-"
"Oh... ok..." I tried not to sound disappointed, and faked a smile. He gave me a questioning look, as if he didn't believe me.
"Ooorrrrrr, I could take you home to get your things, then you could stay with me?" He smiled sweetly at me.
"Really?!" I squealed.
"Yep! But on one condition..."
My smile faded. "What is it?" I asked nervously. "You have to tell me why you don't want to stay home." He looked at me with pleading eyes, hoping that I would finally tell him.
"O-okay..." I took in a shaky breath as I tried to calm myself. "My mom isn't... the nicest of all people, Bren..." I looked down, ashamed.
"Oh, Tyler..." His eyes were starting to water. "Does she... hurt you?" He asked slowly.
"Sometimes, but it's usually just a slap or a kick because I didn't do something right. It's all perfectly fine, Bren, I deserve it, honestly." I sighed.
He looked tense, but his eyes were still swimming with tears that he refused to let spill.
"Baby, stop.." I pleaded, locking eyes with him. "You've already cried too much today, and I don't need you to let any more fall from your pretty little eyes. Especially if they were from something that isn't your fault, or as someone as dumb as one of my problems." I explained softly.
He looked up at me with sad, wide eyes. "Why do you not think you're important, Tyler?" He asked.
I sat there and stared at him, stunned at how blunt he was with it. Most people would have seen it as just a normal question, but I tend to find dumb things more important than they actually are. I didn't answer him because I just simply didn't know how I could respond to a question like that.
"I..." I started. I let out a frustrated sigh and just looked out the window, ignoring the question and Brendon completely.
He huffed and pulled over to the side of the road. He turned to me and looked me straight in the eyes. "You are the most important thing to me, and I will be six feet under the fucking ground before I give you a reason to think that I don't love you. It's not true. I love you so much more than I, and probably anyone else, has ever loved anything. Please see that you are something. Even if it's not the most important person in the world, you're the most important person in my world. And no, I won't die without you. I've existed with you, and I have without you. But I won't be truly living unless I know that you're mine, and I'm yours to love. If I don't have you, Tyler, it's like I'm some sort of dumb robot that's stuck on autopilot." His voice was stern, but his eyes made it look like what he was saying, was genuine. He might have even looked a little sad. "I love you, god dammit!" He exclaimed, voice cracking. "I'm in love with you..." He sighed, a single tear falling from his eye.
"I love you," I said simply, although I meant it.
"You know that you don't have to say it, if you don't mean it." He choked out.
"Just shut the fuck up and get over here." I laughed dryly. I pulled him over to me, and we hugged for a long time. We just sat in the car like that for I don't even know how long. He pulled away after a bit and pecked my lips with a soft smile.
"I'm not gonna leave you, Bren..." I whispered.
