Lindsay Stark distractedly reached across the worktop to where a donut and a mug of coffee sat. She mumbled to herself as she typed up a document on her laptop. Screwdrivers, planning documents, nuts, bolts and multiple colour swatches where spread across the worktop.
She leaned back in the high-backed black leather office chair as she took a bite of the donut and vaguely flicked through some colour swatches.
She reached up to remove the hair bobble which was currently holding her hair up into a messy bun, as she did so her dark brown wavy hair cascaded down to reach just past her shoulders.

The frosted glass doors to the room slid open and in walked a young man, he was smartly yet casually dressed with dark hair and thick framed glasses.
Lindsay spun around in the chair to see whom it was that had entered the laboratory come office.
"Oh hey Theo!" She said with a smile, turning back around in the chair as she saw her friend. He smiled back, he couldn't help but notice the way in which Lindsays hazel brown eyes lit up, or the way in which little creases formed at the edge of her mouth when she smiled.  He sighed to himself, he didn't have a chance with her.
Not only was her father Tony Stark - Famous billionaire and total genius; whom Theo was pretty sure didn't like him. But she had also become his best friend, something which he did not regret, for he valued her friendship so much, however, it did disappoint him to know that a 'friend' is exactly what Lindsay saw him as.
Putting this thought to the back of his mind, Theo placed the satchel he was carrying down on a nearby worktop as he approached Lindsay.

"What are you working on there then?" He asked as he watched her filing through a untidy arrangement of notes and plans which where laid out on the table in front of her.
"Ah, well... you know how my dad said that when I'm 18 I can have my own super-suit? Well my mother seems to of made him backtrack on that statement. And seeing as he is now putting off the idea of making a suit for me, and it's my birthday in a few days time, I've decided I'd make one myself - with your help".
Theo, who had now picked up some of the notes and was reading through them looked up, "I see what you mean about your dad and things, and I get that you want to make a suit, and I'd love nothing more than to be able to help you out but-" he started to speak as Lindsay interrupted him. "You better not be about to bring my dad into this Theo! I promise I won't tell him you helped, and even if he does find out- which he won't- it won't matter anyway it'll all be fine! Besides I've already started and I've been working really hard on it!" She said trying to convince him.
He knew this was never going to work - he couldn't say no to her, she was a master of persuasion and manipulation and he was no match for her charms.
"Ok fine I'll help you, but you do realise that if Mr Stark, I mean your dad, if he finds out, we're both going to be in big trouble. He doesn't like me as it is! I don't think me helping you with these shenanigans is going to make him like me much more, in fact I'm afraid it will have rather the reverse effect. Last time I helped you with something like this he started yelling at me and called me irresponsible because I'm older than you! I don't want that to happen again!" He said exasperated.
Lindsay laughed, "Ugh you worry too much! You're not that much older than me, besides I'm old enough to make my own decisions and it's about time my dad realised that. Anyway he doesn't dislike you personally, he dislikes any male that I hang around with between the age of 16-30! Plus you really should just start calling him Tony."
Theo gave a  rueful laugh - "Yeah right, if you say so. But I somehow don't think that Tony Stark aka Iron Man himself,  would appreciate me straight up calling him Tony, I feel like he'd blast me out of the nearest window or something if I did that. Anyway, on that note I better get going, I was just passing by and thought I'd pop in" he lied. He had in fact been at a party that was being held where he was currently living; the SHIELD academy, when he had decided he would rather take a spontaneous visit over to Stark tower to visit Lindsay.
"Oh, ok then. I'll pay you a visit tomorrow at the campus and we can talk about those plans I have for my project, if that's ok?" She asked him.
"Yeah sure that sounds good, I'll take you out for lunch, my treat" He said with a smile.
"Sorted then" Lindsay agreed as she stood up to walk Theo to his car.
As they walked down the stairs of Stark tower Lindsay chatted about design ideas, the weather, and other topics that would seem to pop into her mind at random. Theo remained quiet but smiled as he watched Lindsay chatter away, in a sense, he hated how all he could notice about her was how beautiful and funny and adorable he thought she was.
Ever since he had met her 5 months ago at a shield academy conference, when Tony had come to lead a discussion to the students, and it just so happened that he had brought along his daughter; Lindsay. Who sat quietly in the back row all through the conference. After the discussion, instead of crowding around with his fellow students to talk to Tony Stark, Theo cautiously approached Lindsay and started to talk to her.
Although she was the daughter of a world famous billionaire- and she was 3 years younger than him- from the first day he met her Theo knew he had fallen for her, although she was a pretty girl it wasn't her looks that had ensnared him, it was her mind. He had never felt more in tune with someone, he could break it down to chemical formulas all he liked- There was no denying the fact that he was in love with Lindsay Stark, yet she seemed oblivious to it.
As they walked Theo remembered the question that he had been putting off asking Lindsay for weeks, it was now it never - "Hey, so you know next week is my graduation ceremony, well there's going to be a talk and free food and that kind of thing, and there's a dance and stuff, it's a black tie event really, and err, I was wondering if you would maybe be my date for it? Not like as in a date, just, I mean, my person, no I mean er my er partner, er no I mean-"  he stuttered as he began to panic.
Lindsay laughed "Don't worry I know what you mean, although I'm sure there's gonna be some girls who will be disappointed if you ask your best friend instead of asking one of them on a date, but if you want me to then of course I'll go with you!"
Her words felt like a punch to the stomach, he should've know this was the response he'd of gotten, he was hoping she would've got the hint but instead she had unintentionally friend zoned him big time.
"Great" he replied flatly.
Lindsay stopped and turned to face him, "you did mean... well, as a friend, right?" She asked confusedly. Theo stood in front of Lindsay and met her gaze. "Well, actually Lindsay, when I said 'date' I'm not sure why I said not as in a date, because, well I suppose that is what I mean." He said quietly.
"Wait, so let me get this right, this is you asking me out on a date?" She asked.
Theo nodded as he reached over to push Lindsay's sleek wavy hair back off her face.
"Oh god, Theo what? Why are you doing this? I thought we where best friends, but not, not this. I didn't even realise you thought of me like this?" Lindsay whispered softly.

Footsteps could be heard coming from a few flights of stairs above. "I'm really sorry Lindsay, I should never if put you in this situation, I really aught to go, I'll understand if you don't want to come to the graduation ceremony with me, or... or if you'd rather not see me again at all." Theo said, his voice shaking as he took a few paces back then jogged down the stairwell and out of the double doors. Lindsay stood dazed for a minute as she tried to process what had just happened, sure she'd always thought he was cute, but it hadn't occurred to her that he could be a potential boyfriend. Suddenly it all became so clear, although Theo was genuinely her friend, he had been hinting all along that he had feelings for her, and she had never even noticed, and maybe, even though she'd been denying it, she knew that there was a chemistry between them.

She quickly ran after him, she took a sharp intake of breath as the cold night  air hit her. Theo had just started up the engine of his car as Lindsay ran over and knocked on the drivers side window. He looked up at her, she had never seen him look so insecure and upset.
"For gods sakes Theo get out the damn car!" She said, he cut off the engine and stepped out of the car as she had asked him to do.
"I'm sorry Lindsay, I didn't want to ruin our friendship, but, I can't hide my feelings for you anymore, it's messing with my head" he admitted as he avoided eye contact.
She placed her hand on his arm and took a step closer, "It's fine, but I'm not about to let my best friend just drive off and never return, so I guess we could try something new?" She said softly as she leant in to kiss him.
Gently he kissed her back and pulled her closer to him.
Lindsay was somewhat surprised at how right it felt as she leant against Theo in the cold night air as they shared the kiss.
After the kiss Lindsay looked up at Theo, who smiled shyly back at her. It was freezing outside yet she was stood close to Theo so that she could feel the warmth from his body.
She leant her head on his chest as they stood in the street. "So, what does that make us?" Theo asked with a slight laugh. "Well I don't normally snog my friends to be honest, so I guess that makes us more than best friends now, I should probably go back inside though, before 'iron man' sees us' she joked.
"Yeah sure, I'll err see you soon then? but before you go do you think you'd mind if maybe... I um, could kiss you again? " Theo asked awkwardly. "sure" Lindsay laughed. Theo leant in to kiss her again, his arms still wrapped around her in an embrace, they kissed more passionately now as they both realised the ammount of chemistry between them.
"I've wanted to ask you out for ages, but I just couldn't I was too nervous" Theo blushed.
Lindsay laughed as she reached up to push Theo's glasses back into place properly "Oh well sorry I never picked up on the hinting, anyway this has been - umm interesting. I really had better go now though, before my dad realises I'm missing. Bye, I'll see you tomorrow!" She said running back into Stark tower before he had chance to say another word.
