Asami's Pov

A black and white film. That's exactly how I would describe it. Smoke surrounded us, bringing with it a horrid smell of pure destruction. Who started the fire? That I didn't know. But I knew that this was certainly not expected. Bolin bended earth walls around us so that not even the smallest of embers could inflict upon our group. One minute the universe was granting us the shiniest of days, now as I glanced up, the sun was red and jet-black clouds plagued the sky.

"I'm going to see what's going on, can I count you guys in finding any survivors?" Korra requested while bending an air scooter. The best vehicle for mysterious catastrophes. Bolin and I nodded, and with that Korra broke out of Bolin's fortress and proceeded in fulfilling her avatar duties. Jinora, though surprisingly calm, was starting to have a coughing fit.

"I'll take care of Jinora, you two go help people" Opal commanded while patting harshly Jinora's back. It felt as if the very ashes of the air were entering our lungs and even though we were within these walls, I could still feel a tremendous heat coming from outside.

"I can take care of myself, thank you very much" She remarked sassily. Even in this situation, she could still maintain her unique character,

"Coming from the person who fell from a tree, come on" Commanded the kin of Toph Beifong. She punched Jinora's shoulder and helped her make her exit. Bolin took down his walls and I faced him. I didn't have to say anything, his facial expression was enough to tell me that he was ready. Luckily the flames didn't touch the park, however, not the same could be said for the street that we were walking on. As I jogged down to the Ice cream place I touched a tree with charred limbs and leaves. This place was probably never going to be the same again. Bolin followed my steps and I entered the establishment. A morbid scent welcomed me and I could see that everybody evacuated the premises, until I heard an ear-splitting cry. My stomach turned to water in dismay of what was to come next. I took down all the tables that were in my way, like a hurricane crashing against trees and I could feel bolin's hand on my shoulder. A reminder to stay calm.

"Daddy?" The voice returned. Bolin crouched near a sofa and immediately pointed to an emerging figure. It was a boy with ebony hair, panting roughly from the smoke. He must have been 6 years old but his once silky skin was now scraped.

"Are you ok buddy? I've got you, let's find your daddy for you" Bolin cooed as he scooped the boy up. I was relieved to know that the origin of the voice was just a mere child, but I needed to clear the area for any victims for the sake of Republic city and for Korra. We exited the Ice cream business and were relieved that the street was watered down. Most of the buildings were still on fire but at least we could walk without fear of stepping on a flame. I scanned the horizon and could spot that there was still an inferno sweeping a street 2 blocks down. I ran with Bolin, the boy still in his arms. He was clutching Bo's chest for safety. I wondered if Jinora and Opal found any more survivors. I wondered if they were safe.

"Lee!!" Somebody hollered. From the corner of my eye I could see a middle aged man sprinting while waving his hand frantically.

"That's my son!" He yelled with a watery smile. When he arrived to us the boy leapt from Bolin's arms and straight towards his father's. They were both choked up with emotion and their bond seemed to warm my heart up. A warmth that was better than the fire surrounding us. The father thanked us until he ran out of breath and which made me and Bo laughed.

"Can I do anything to repay you??" He questioned while shaking my hand gratefully. A much deserved ice cream and a shower please, but I had more important things to worry about.

"Nothing at all sir, did you see a blue eyed woman wearing..."

"The avatar?" He responded inquisitively. I nodded.

"Yeah she went over there..." He trailed off. I could see a fight down at the plaza. We were too far away to determine who they were but I knew one of them had to be Korra. Oddly enough, it seemed that one person was bending fire while the other merely used his fists. Only one group of people could stand up to the Avatar without the power of bending. Equalists. I dashed at that thought leaving behind Bolin and Lee. I needed to help Korra, this wasn't right. Amon and his revolution died out a long time ago, they shouldn't be here in this city.

"Korra!" I shouted making sure it was really her. Everything happened so fast but the next thing I knew was that one of the fighters flew out of my sight while the other one was walking towards his motorcycle. I bolted and I saw the back of the runaway. I was right, while he made his escape he threw away his mask towards the side of the street, confirming his identity. That only meant one thing. I cocked my head to one side facing a secluded alley and caught a glimpse of a body. As I neared it, I saw what I dreaded more than anything in the world. Blood was slowly oozing out of Korra's head and I could hear the first patter of rain falling behind me.
