I immediately started crying even more when I got in the car with my mom.
"I know, it's going to be hard." She said. Right. She didn't move when she was seventeen, halfway through high school, leaving all of her best friends behind. What kind of mom would say that?
"Whatever." I said, trying not to unleash my anger towards her.
"Okay." She replied. I think she knew what signal I was sending her: back the heck off.
The whole car ride to our house, soon to be someone else's, was boring. I couldn't stop thinking about Chloe. I couldn't even connect my bluetooth, and that is harsh. When we got there, I decided to take one last look around my happy place, my humble home.
First, I looked in the pantry, because that was where the food was, then the laundry room, my parents room, the guest bedroom, the bathrooms, the kitchen, the basement, the dining room, garage, and at last, my favorite room, my bedroom. I was going to miss it. I checked my closet, deserted and empty. I suddenly heard a voice downstairs that interrupted my thought process, "C'mon! We are going to be late!" I shed my last tear and walk away.
I got into my car, and followed Siri's directions. I mostly followed my parents, but just in case I got lost, she was there to guide me.
I saw the time on the top on long it would be until we got there: 45 minute drive.
Not that long, luckily.
I had to take out my auxiliary cord, because my car was a dinosaur and didn't have bluetooth. I plugged my phone in and turned up my Spotify to forget my worries and fears, even if it was just for 45 minutes.
And how WRONG was I?
It took one hour and fifteen minutes to get there! Traffic was awful to get out of the city! Luckily, there was absolutely no traffic in the suburbs.
Also, I was only more reminded of my worries and fears because I kept looking at the artifacts of Columbia.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at our house. It was pretty big, compared to our other house. The neighborhood seemed friendly and upscale, kind of. The new house apparently had three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen on the middle floor and a kitchen in the basement, a laundry room, a pantry, a library, and the beloved basement. The outdoor highlights were a pool, deck, and it had a fence around all of this.
I ran upstairs to claim my bedroom. I fell in love with the bedroom I saw. It was grey-silver and had an enormous closet. My room was very big, about the size of a classroom. I quickly looked at the rest of the house. I was amazed that I actually liked it. The moving company had brought all of my stuff in and told us to get settled in.
When I finished, it looked amazing. I loved it.
