"Hey guys." Said Ashton, who had just walked up to Eliza and Raven, who were having a very heated conversation.
"Hey... dude?" Eliza said cautiously.
"Yeah, dude." Ashton replied. You could usually tell with him, but Eliza always wanted to make sure. Today, Ashton was wearing his usual guy look. His short, brown hair was left uncombed on his head, his band t-shirt (today it was twenty one pilots), his black jeans with holes worn out though the knees, and his light skin was tanned from a summer in the sun.
"What happened this time?" Ashton said, taking out his earbuds, a smile creeping across his face. Raven and Eliza were always arguing about one thing or another.
Eliza smiled smugly at Raven. "Well, somebody lost a bet and is refusing to accept the agreed upon punishment." Eliza's blonde hair fell in his face and he, with great flamboyance, brushed it back in place with a flick of his wrist. Today, he was dressed up even more then he usually is. His stylish sunglasses glinted in the morning sun, and his hairs was combed back and shining from all the product. He wore a gray collared dress shirt, short sleeved for the weather, a lose bow tie, salmon pink pants, and light leather boots. Eliza's Dad was a big time investor and he made a lot of money, so Eliza could afford the finest of clothing.
"Well, I would do the punishment, but-" Raven started.
"But you weren't expecting to fail." Eliza finished, giving Raven one of his bitch, I bested you looks, which he gives out often.
Raven looked at Eliza with unadulterated loathing, a look they tended to give out as often as Eliza made comments about the boys ay school, which was quite a lot. Raven's eyes were dark, and their caramel skin was a little sunburnt. Their short black hair fell in front of their eyes, the rest hidden under their gray hoodie. Their hands were in their hoodie pockets, their gray jeans worn, but had no holes, and their beat up sneakers were covered in dirt.
"I would agree to the punishment if the punishment wasn't so shitty." Raven practically spat out.
Eliza shrugged. "You knew what you were getting yourself into."
"I tend not to listen when the punishments are being decided. By that point I'm focusing on beating you."
"Which didn't happen."
"Don't get too cocky, Eliza."
"I'll try." Eliza's lips bent up in a tight grin."
Ashton intervened, feeling confused. "Wait wait wait. Back up."
"Well," Eliza started, "it all began with a arm wrestle."
"Of course." Eliza sighed.
"Raven beat me, like they usually do, and they said 'I bet you couldn't even beat your baby brother.'"
"Which one?" Ashton asked.
"I asked that question too. Apparently they meant the second youngest. Timothy."
"Ah, okay." Said Ashton. "Continue."
"Alright," Eliza said, starting his story again, "then Raven asked 'What's the punishment?' And I said, 'If I don't beat my brother, then I have to tell Drake Johnson that he looks like a piece of Elephant shit.' Which, on the first day of school will determine my social status for the rest of the year."
"But if he beat his brother, I would have to say to the lunch ladies 'Excuse me girls, I think you might have caught a bat under that hair net of yours. Oh wait, I think that's just you hair.' How's that fair! These people feed me! What I am going to do if they start to skip out on some food? I get hungry just as Eliza, and all he has to do is insult Drake. I would insult that douchebag any day without having to lose a bet." Raven looked in the distance
"That, you see, is our difference. You crave food as much as I crave popularity."
They started to argue again.
Ashton cleared his throat. "So anyways..."
Eliza brushed himself off and continued. "So, after getting Timothy to sit still for one second, we arm wrestled, and I beat the shit out of that kid!"
"May I just say that it took over 30 seconds." Raven added.
"Whatever, we both know who the real winner is."
Ashton looked away as the two started to argue again. He stared at all the students getting ready for the first day of high school. He watched the cars come and go, their wheels spinning, and their windshields glinting in the sun, when one particular car caught his eye. It was a bright red convertible, full of laughing girls and hot guys.
Oh shit, they're all really attractive Ashton thought. But one girl in particular stood out the most. She had long, straight brown hair that looked warm in the sun. She had light skin that had tanned over the summer. She wore a tight tank top that cut off right above her belly button, and shorts that the school didn't allow. She was laughing, she looked like she was having the time of her life.
Ashton had blocked out everything, all he could do was look at that girl, and all he could hear was his beating heart. She was radiant.
Ashton heard a muffled noise. He heard it again. It got louder and louder until he could hear his own name. "Ashton." Suddenly he was shook out of his trance.
"Ashton!" Eliza yelled. "What's gotten into you?" Eliza traced where Ashton was just staring. "Oh no, you're not staring at one of those girls, are you?"
Ashton looked away quickly. "No."
"He totally is." Raven said. "Ashton, I thought you were better then this. You know you can't go crushing on the popular kids. Remember what happened to Eliza when he asked out Camren?"
Eliza glared at Raven. "I thought we agreed we wouldn't bring up Camren."
"Eliza, I know you think you can shut out Camren, but he runs for president of the school every year. His face is always everywhere." Raven exhaled.
"Well, maybe high school will be different." Eliza said hopefully.
"I seriously doubt that." Raven said, distracted.
Raven would never hurt Eliza's feelings of purpose, but they can be a little harsh sometimes. Eliza gave me a pleading look. His eyes told me to try and change the subject. Raven is so good at so many things, but one thing they're not good at is picking up signals, or knowing when to stop.
Ashton looked around for something to talk about, when a familiar blue sports car pulling into the parking lot. Then, out stepped Drake.
"I thought that when we got into high school, we would escape Drake, but apparently he was determined to make our lives a living hell."
"Why did he even decide to come to WestWood?" Raven asked. "Theirs a school much closer to his house that honestly seems a lot more promising then here."
"Apparently he thought that an all boys school was too 'gay'. " Eliza scoffed.
"Of course." Said Ashton. Typical Drake, always finding some way to be insulting in everything he does.
"If all boys schools really were as gay as he thinks, I would transfer there in one second." Eliza said with a far off look in his eyes, probably fantasizing about making out with some hot guy. Ashton rolled his eyes.

A bell rang. The doors opened. Students started rushing inside.

"Ready for the first day?" Eliza asked.
"No, but that's never stopped me before." Ashton exhaled.
Raven softly punched Ashton's arm, and smiled at Ashton, something you don't see often.
"Let's go." Raven said, and held Ashton and Eliza's hands as they lead the two boys inside.
