Chapter Two
The bells rang loudly as my car pulled up to the chapel hall, within seconds the door opened and I was being helped out of the car, my dress train following. I clutched on to my flowers as the prime minister took my arm, with a gentle squeeze. Prime Minister Collins was not my favourite person, he was a short and grumpy, and smelled a lot like onions but he was kind and at this point i had nobody else qualified to walk me down the isle. "Now my lady, you must keep your chin up and poised throughout the whole ceremony." he instructed, i fought the urge to roll my eyes at him but noticed we were being watched "and you must not look him directly in the eyes, it is rude." he said, i suppose he thought this is what the father of the bride did, instructed you on how to behave at your wedding, of course i knew all of this, i had been in training all my life, but i patiently listened and nodded when appropriate before a tall announcer walked towards us "My lady, Prime Minister, we are ready for you inside.." he said waiting for my approval to open the doors, i took a deep breath, i couldn't turn back now, it was my duty, my honour to my people, it was what i was born to do and had been taught since i could remember but why did i so badly want to flee? I pushed those feelings down, they were bad thoughts to have, the Order would never approve. I exhaled and with one swift nod the announcer rushed up the stairs and signalled the guards standing by the door.
The music blared as we came into view, the royals in their seats stood as soon as they saw me, some gasped and others claps their hands over there hearts. I looked around unsure before remembering i was being watched by millions, my chin instinctively rose and my eyes locked on my groom, who hadn't even turned around to face me. Rude. I thought to myself. It wasn't until i was about 10 feet away from him that he turned, my throat caught as i stared at him. He was young like me, maybe a little older, and he stood about 6 foot 2 inches tall, about half a foot taller than me, his hair was raven black and it wasn't until i got closer to him that i noticed his eyes, piercing dark blue that studied me just as i studied him. I suddenly felt exposed, his eyes seem to read me like a book and i wondered if he could hear my thoughts or my heart pounding in my chest, of course he couldn't said to myself. A smile drew on his face as the gap between us grew shorter until finally I stood next to him, the Prime Minister, who i had forgotten was there, handed my hand to my groom, he took it willingly. His hands were soft and welcoming. I smiled slightly, i could do worse.
"We are gathered here today..." the celebrant began in his slow tone of voice "...to bring together a royal matrimony of Prince Caspian Ryker Denaris to Princess Cara Azalea Seteals..." Caspian Ryker i thought to myself, the name of my groom, the man who was to father my children, a small smile crept into the corner of my lip, it was a nice name, and it suited him perfectly.
The ceremony ended and the royals cheered for us, i smiled, not quite knowing how to act, it was a joyous day but i hadn't even spoken to Caspian. I had a need to get him alone, to speak to him, to get to know him. I wanted everyone to go away and let us get to know each other. My thoughts were interrupted by the feeling on someone taking my arm, i looked up to see him, smiling at me "Hello" he mouthed before looking up and smiling at the people cheering for us, he began to lead us back towards the entrance, waving at everyone as we passed. He made it look so easy, to pretend like this was a joyous and anxiously awaited day. I tried to copy him, but even i could see through my charade.
There would be no celebration, no after party like they used to do, the Order believed all it caused was drunken and disorderly behaviour, which was something they could never have inside the city. Instead the day ended with the bride and groom driving away as everyone cheered and danced in the street for half an hour until it was time for everyone to go home.
I sat next to him in the back of our car, staring as i watched everyone dance and cheer as we pulled away, his hand gently touched mine, a small gesture to remind me he was here.
I turned to face him with a small smile "Hello Caspian." i let the words roll off my tongue
"I prefer Ryker." he smiled back "It is nice to finally meet you Cara." he said gently squeeing my hand, i nodded, it was nice to finally meet my groom and how grateful i was to have someone handsome and my age.
"Ryker, i like that too." I said softly, glancing back out the window, "Do you know where we are going?" I asked, Ryker shook his head, i guess we both were left out of the loop.
"I know its a grand palace, rebuilt since the last King and Queen." He smiled, i hadn't thought of that, our coronations, where we would take the throne f the Order and Kind and Queen. Not that it meant much, we were still under the rules of the Order but they believed the people would need people to look up to, thus the royal family lived on.
"It could possibly be in the same place..." i speculated before thinking again "Though i suppose it never has been in the same place..." i thought aloud
Ryker hmmed in response "I bet it will be so grand we will get lost!" he grinned excitably
"Which palace are you from?" I asked suddenly, i hadn't thought to ask before but if he was excited about a larger palace he couldn't be from the upper kingdom.
"I'm from Lyonsdale." he smiled, of course, the heart of the city, not low class royal but not high class like i was.
I nodded "Ive heard its beautiful there, very green." i smiled, he answered with a nod "I'm from Gazziliam, but i guess you knew that." I chuckled slightly
"Yes, you have to be to become Queen. You're the direct descendant of King Henri and Queen Lillian" he smiled, pleased with his knowledge, i nodded, i didn't like to talk about my parents much, but my nod seemed to please him enough.
The rest of the drive was quiet and long, with a few remarks about the scenery before we finally pulled up at a grand palace, i gasped, it was beautiful, made from whit emarble and laced with pure gold trimmings. I waited for the door to open before stepping out and marvelling at our new home.
"We are definitely going to get lost." Ryker commented before lifting me up as the custom was and walking me into the palace.
