Chapter Five
I tried not to draw attention to the paper-book that sat tucked uncomfortably between my skirts as we made our way back to the palace, i had gotten another book so as not to look suspicious. Finn and Evie hadn't noticed anything yet, or so i hoped. When we arrived home i quickly went upstairs using the excuse of needing the restroom, Evie kindly tried to follow me but i dismissed her. I couldn't let anyone know i had this book, i don't know what the punishment for it would be but i would rather not find out.
Once i was safely in my room i walked around trying to figure out where i could store my treasure, i walked into the sunroom and noticed a small cupboard underneath the window seat, i pulled it open, there was an assortment of fabrics in the drawer, obviously for sewing, i moved some aside and placed the paper-book amongst it, covering it over again. I would have to wait until night time to read it. I couldn't risk someone walking in whilst i was reading.
During dinner Ryker kept asking me questions about my day, what i had found at the library.
"So you like law book then?" He smiled taking a large bite of the roast duck that was prepared for us, i looked away feeling queasy as i usually did when it came to meaty foods.
I nodded whilst playing with my carrots "I like to know how to rule perfectly." i smiled, this comment would please him
"Thats marvellous, you shall be a great queen." He smiled "And I've organised us to tell the kingdom of our wonderful news on Friday." He said looking proud of himself
Friday was 5 days away, that would take me to 9 weeks along. I still couldn't comprehend that i was pregnant, it just didn't seem real.
"You aren't hungry my love?" Ryker asked gesturing to my plate
I shook my head "I am feeling slightly ill my prince, would you mind if i retired early tonight?" I asked with a small smile
"Is it the baby?" He asked concerned, i nodded "Should i call the doctor? I thought he was meant to stop the illness?"
"It merely comes with the territory, there is not a lot the doctor will be able to do, a good rest should fix me." I smiled patting his hand
"Very well, i shall see you tomorrow morning at breakfast, i shall send a maid up with you to make you comfortable." He said waving a maid to follow me
"Thank you my prince, and rest well." I said standing and kissing his forehead before leaving the dining room
Once my dress was off and my hair and makeup undone the maid curtsied and left the room, leaving me alone. I desperately wanted to go to my sunroom and pick out the paper-book but i could still see lights coming from the palace. I needed to wait until i was certain everyone was asleep.
It didn't take long for everyone to retire as the palace went silent and slowly the lights flicked off. I waited about half an hour after the last light went off before i shuffled out of my bed and into the sunroom. The moon was bright enough for me to see what i was doing as i pulled out the paper-book. I sat myself facing the door and covered myself and the book with a blanket, if someone were to come in i wanted to be prepared to hide it.
I took a deep breath and turned it on.
The screens brightness hurt my eyes but they quickly adjusted, i flicked unlock on the paperbook, with no security lock on it, it was easy. I looked over the contents of it, there was only one app on there, a writing app. I looked up and around me once more, getting goosebumps as i opened the app. It took mere seconds to load but it felt like hours, and suddenly in black and white on the screen it read
"I'm going to tell you the truth."
It felt like the shivers on my body got shivers, as I hastily flicked to the next page,
"You know them as the Order, thats what they call themselves, they do this to hide themselves, to pretend you are safe, but you are not. Nobody is safe from them. They lie, they have trapped us in a world of purity and sheep like following, we obey them and they watch us, studying us, building the perfect society so that the sponsors will keep paying for us. We are a game to them. The outside world does not know about us, they do not know about our world. We are trapped in a cage.
But we wont be stuck here forever. Not once the prophecy is fulfilled. Not once they find the Rebeller. They hope to match the royal family with other royal families so they can eradicate the Rebeller, you see the prophesy says the rebeller comes from one royal and one peasant. A free thinker. The royal family must not have a free thinker, they are too instrumental to society. The society trusts them more than the Order.
But i know who the Rebeller is, who it will be, and once i write this i will hide this and hope one day the right person will find it. I will most likely be put to death if this falls into the wrong hands. Take this to her, if you find this paperbook take this to the Rebeller. Her name is Cara Azura Seteals. Queen Lillian's and my daughter. She is not King Henri's child. She is the Rebeller. She will free us."
- Faithfully, Jorda Lang
The paperbook fell from my hands, i stared ahead of me in disbelief, my mind raced, all the questions i was never meant to ask, all the things my mother told me were lies. I was not King Henri's daughter, I was not pure royal, I was the daughter of a commoner. I was lied to my whole life.
The rest of the writings were about the Order, the crimes they committed to have us locked away in here, the things they did once we were in here, testing us with new diseases, taking newborns to give to the people in the outside world. The murders they committed if anyone questioned them. But the purpose behind it all? It was never mentioned. I stayed up most of the night looking for the answer, why? Why did they do all of this? Why would they take us and harm us? Who was he? Who was my father?
Why was I the Rebeller?
