The weather was dreary again while I walked to school the next day. Mazie hopped along with a skip in her step as always, but I certainly didn't. I got close to no sleep last night.
I kept bracing myself for Rick and Patricia to jump from an alleyway or trip me, but nothing came. I didn't see them at all on my walk to school, which made me even more suspicious.
Once we got to school, Mazie and I waited by the big oak tree in the courtyard of the school house. My eyes darted from person to person, trying to spot Rick and his girlfriend somewhere, but they were nowhere to be seen.
Soon the bell rang, and Mazie and I trudged to class, while I was still on edge.
