(A/N: Short filler chapter, I promise something cute will happen soon.)
The sorting went on for a while, young children spread across the four houses after trying on the hat. For the most part the twins were well behaved, unless a child became a Slytherin, then they would glare heavily at the green table.
"Hello, Miss, welcome to Gryffindor." A voice spoke across from me. A pearly white and transparent figure was sat on the other side of the table.
George looked away from the sorting and at the man. "Hello Nick."
"Mr. Weasley." He nodded before turning back to me. "And who might you be?"
"Ashton Whitebeam." I replied uncertainly.
"Have you never seen a ghost before?" George snickered into my ear. I shook my head, they don't allow ghosts in Ilvermorny. They don't allow a lot in Ilvermorny. He chuckled.
"Ash, this is Nearly Headless Nick, the Gryffindor ghost." Fred introduced.
The ghost frowned, "I would prefer to be called my real name Mr. Weasley: Sir Nicholas De Mimsy-Porpington."
"Would Sir Nicholas work?" I asked.
Nick smiled widely. "Of course young lady. Oh, I must go greet the new Gryffindors. Nice to meet you Miss Whitebeam." He floated off down the table.
"How can you be nearly headless?" I asked as soon as he was gone.
The three boys laughed.
"When he was still alive someone tried to behead him but didn't do it properly. His head is still attached. It seems he's wearing his ruff extra tight to keep it on." Lee explained.
"Oh." Was all I could think to say.
"Kozma, Teagen." Professor McGonagall's voice rang through the hall again, the first name catching my attention. I looked and saw the little blond sitting on the school. It would be great if she was in Gryffindor...
The hat dropped over her eyes and she seemed to be talking to it. I leaned over to George while keeping my eyes on Teagen.
"I hope she's in Gryffindor." I tell him.
He looks over at her, "That first year?" He asks a little rudely.
"Yes, that first year. She's my new friend." I take my eyes off her to glare at him.
"I though we were your new friends." He murmurs.
"You wont be if you keep that tone." I warn.
He touches his heart dramatically, "Ouch, Ash. Now we're being replaced?"
Fred and Lee look over at us.
"No," I say, my gaze returning to the eleven year old.
"Just you." I smirk.
He gasps loudly, catching the attention of a few people around us. Fred and Lee snicker at his reaction. I chuckle lightly.
"Did I take this long to sort?" I ask the boys. It's been at least three minutes and the other kids in the hall were getting restless.
"No." Fred sighs.
"This is what we call a hat-stall." Lee explains, "It's when the sorting hat can't make up it's mind about where to put someone. It appears to be having trouble with your little friend."
"Well I wish it'd hurry up, I'm starving." Fred complained.
"I bet it's having trouble choosing Gryffindor or Hufflepuff," I say, "I hope she's in Gryffindor."
"How do you even know her?" George asks.
"I met her before I got sorted. She was talking about being a no-maj born."
"A what?" All three of them exclaimed at the same time.
I rolled my eyes. "A no-maj. Non-magical person? What'd she call them? It starts with an m. Moogle? No. Miggle? No, that's not it. What's it called?" I asked, now frustrated.
"A muggle?" The twins ask. All three boys are grinning madly at my failed attempts at explaining the British version.
"Yes, that. No-maj is what we call them in the states."
"Your joking." Lee stated.
"No, we actually call them that." I explained slowly, as if talking to young children. I turned back to the sorting. It's been five minutes at this point and even some of the teachers are beginning to look confused. But not McGonagall. No, she seems to be smiling slightly, almost as if she's seen this before.
"Look." George exclaims quietly to me.
The brim at the bottom of the hat opens wide and...
(A/N: I know, really short chapter here. I'd like to know which house you think Teagen will/should be in, Please comment and like. Thank you guys :D)
