It didn’t take long for me to pick which room I wanted. After exploring most of the house, I discovered one with a large room, it’s own bathroom and a decent view of the backyard. Dave was putting boxes in my room when I noticed moves taking a bed into the room across from mine.

“Dave?”

“Yeah?” He grunted, trying to set my heavy box of books down carefully.

“Why are the movers taking stuff over there?” I said and pointing across the hall.

He glanced up then began assembling my bed frame.

“That’s John’s room.”

I gritted my teeth together. A house huge as this one and he had to pick the one across from one.

“Dammit,” Dave growled, “I forgot my drill. Be right back.” He got up and was quickly out the door. I sighed and sat on the window sill. One thing I loved so much about this room was that the window had a wide sill that was made to be used as a couch. Pulling out my journal I started to write.

Well, we’re here now. And the place is a total hole. Everything is falling apart, the grass is totally over grown and there’s no sign of human life for miles. Trudy and Dave will be going to their new jobs in town, which leaves me alone with ‘Jack-Jack’. This worries me even more. Without any girls for him to first like crazy with, I’m concerned on how much he’ll come onto me. Ugh, he’s such a freak.

 “Hey Callie-Girl.”

My grip tightened on my pencil so hard I thought it’d snap in my fingers. John. I looked up at him with a stern expression.

“What do you want John?”

He narrowed his eyes slightly.

“It’s—”

“—Jack-Jack, yeah I know.”

“Then use it.” He grumbled.

“Why did you pick that room?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

He glanced back then looked at me and grinned.

“If you have any nightmares, then I’ll be close by for you to sleep with, ya know, so you won’t get scared.”

I looked at him with a dirty expression and closed my journal.

“You’re sick.”

“Hey, it’s not like I’m your real brother or anything.”

“Still!”

Dave then came walking in with his power tools and another box of my stuff.

“Still what?” He asked curiously.

“I…uh…” John answered blankly.

“I was just saying that I still want to check out the house.” I said coolly.

“Oh!” Dave grinned and set down the box, “Go on then, you don’t have to watch me up your room together. I know how you like it.”

“Alright.”

Which totally wasn’t true. He thought he knew how I wanted my room, but in reality I’d have to completely change it later. But I took this opportunity to escape from Jack-Jack. So quickly I was out the door and attempting to scramble past the busy movers.

I heard Jack-Jack mention something about joining me, so I rushed off. There was no way I wanted to be stuck in a dark corridor with him.
