When I was little my older siblings would tell my stories about mates. How they would complete you; be there for you; and no matter what unconditionally love you. When I grew older I stood by the side and watched as, one by one, my brothers and sister each found their other halves. My anticipation increasing for the day I would have what they had.
A Mate.
It was my dream. I had pictured the day I would meet her. Our eyes would meet from across the room and we'd walk towards each other. We'd tell each other our names and age and just about anything there is to tell. Then we'd get mated and live happily ever after. It was a picture-perfect mating, I know, and probably unlikely to happen considering how my sister Raina first saw her mate, Noah, in the middle of a make-out session. She had immediately ripped the two apart and left after kneeing him the balls, it was an event my brother liked to tease the two about, especially since her mate, Noah, had had to spend weeks trying to woo her back. All of that is beside the point though.
My picture-perfect mating was so far from reality that I wish I could go back and just warn myself of how much it's going to hurt. How it feels to have your heart ripped out of your chest with all your naivety and hope and love, only to be stomped on until none of it remains.
She rejected me. My mate. My one and only, the one meant to complete me, had rejected me and laughed as I cried.
