“It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story.” “Every man at the bottom of his heart believes that he is a born detective.” These are two of my favourite quotes, because they’re true. I have always known I was going to be a detective, ever since Joseph Mackenzie’s pencil case at school went missing when I was 5, and my teacher gave me the task of finding it. And New York City is where most investigations are, so everyone is always trying to find out things from “where’s my pencil gone?” to “right boys, lets see who killed him”. So when I saw the other half of the torn diary entry that I first read, you could say I was more than shocked.
