I woke up early the next day, wanting to know more about my father's death. As I was lying in bed I switched on my detective mode and started thinking of a plan. When momma went to work my grandma would come round to look after me as I was in my holidays from school. I would stay upstairs until my grandma fell asleep downstairs, and then go into momma's room and take her diary. I would then have 13 hours to read the whole diary and find out how my father really died.
As I was planning my day I heard my momma call I love you and the door close. Minutes later the door opened again and my grandma came in. I could hear her snoring before I knew it.
Slowly I tiptoed across the landing making sure not to wake grandma. I slipped into my momma's room and went over to her bed side table. I carefully lifted out her diary and began to read the first entry.

Today I am going to sally's New Year's Eve party. I wonder what it will be like?
January 31 1961
Last night I went to sally's New Year's Eve party . When I first got there I just talked to my friends but then out of the corner of my eye I saw a very handsome young man with a group of boys, who I guessed where his friends. He had golden blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. He came over to me when I sat down at the table and began to talk to me. We Talked and flirted for about an hour before I went back to his house. I told him I wasn't the sort of girl to put out on the first date - in that case the first meeting! He made me some coffee and gave me a blanket to go and watch the fireworks outside. About halfway through we looked at each other. I stared into his eyes. 'How beautiful' I thought.
'Are you all right?' he said
'I'm fine now I'm with you.'
I looked back up and our eyes locked. We moved together slowly. My eyes fluttered down to his lips, then back to his eyes. I could hear the fireworks going off behind us and I couldn't help but giggle.
'What is it?'
'It's nothing. It's just fireworks are going on behind us AND in my stomach.'
'Let's make them explode then.'
And with that he lent in. Our lips touched ever so delicately and gently. I felt warm, full of love. When we pulled away, we linked hands and watched the rest of the fireworks but I couldn't pay attention properly because I kept catching him glancing at me. I was so happy. I'm meeting him tomorrow for coffee! I can't wait!'
I wonder if that was my dad? My mum always said them met at a party.
