"So are you going to participate in that photography contest?" One of the guys asked.

I think his name was Jackson.

After class, Naomi took me to the cafeteria. She told me they always met there for lunch with her friends, it was kind of their met up place. I still didn't understand that much the dynamics of friendship but I tried to be as open minded as possible. She told me I would like her friends.

Indeed when we arrived after class, a little over half past twelve, her friends were already there. We bought lunch before we approached them and she introduced me.

"Hey guys!" Naomi had the tendency, I noticed, of being chirpy. She simply couldn't contain her excitement towards everything that surrounded her. I wish I could be as happy as she appeared to be. "Meet my new friend! Elizabeth," she said signaling me. "Actually, do you have any nickname or something you would like us to call you? I've been calling you Elizabeth during the whole morning but it's kind of a mouthful."

"Oh, I have always been referred to as Elizabeth."

"What about Lizzie? That's such a cute nickname!" It was the girl sat at the table talking. I looked at her surprised, she had short brown hair with the end of it dyed a deep shade of blue. That kind of haircut you wish you could pull off but knew you couldn't.

I smiled, these people just met me and cared more than anyone else to give me a personal nickname. "Yeah, Lizzie sounds great."

"It's set then!" Naomi clapped. "Lizzie, met these douchbags I call friends. That's Steph," she said referring to the girl with original hair.

One by one she introduced me to the four guys sitting at the table. Steph, the girl with blue hair. Jackson, broad shoulders and kind smile. Leah, short and petite. And Blake, long blond hair and flirty smile.

   Surprisingly they were quite pleasant.

Jackson's question was directed to Steph, who I had just learn was majoring in visual arts, so we were bound to share several classes together.

"I don't know. I would really like to but the deadline is at a shitty time, right in the middle of midterms. I don't know if I'll be ready."

"C'mon, Steph! You heard that guy, this is a great opportunity!"

"What's the contest about?" I asked, deeply interested as soon as the topic of photography had been brought up.

Jackson was quick to answer. "We went to this assembly this morning. The school's allowing some rich ex alumni to evaluate us. He owns a gallery, the winner gets to be featured on it and their picture shared. It's huge."

Right after the explanation, Steph and Jackson got into a quite heated fight about it, discussing whether or not it was okay to let him do that. To let someone like him, who wasn't a teacher test us.

I soon spaced out when they changed topics to avoid their bickering around. That contests surely seemed interesting, but I didn't want to push them about it. I could read about it later.
