"But I want it now!" —Verruca Salt
If one really thinks about it, in everything we do there is a section of selfishness within. Yes, one is being kind by donating money to the starving children in Africa, but they're also feeding their conscience. "Oh, yes, I'm a great person now because I help little children in Africa get food and live good lives!"
But really, it's mostly for you. You don't know what they're feeding them or who's giving it to them. You don't know that they're not getting bullied or the rest of their family is getting fed.
We just want us and ourselves to feel good. Is this pride a primitive and survivalist trait that should be considered latent? Or something modern humanity has escalated. Or maybe not.
And honestly, many don't really pay attention to how much of their "dime a day" is actually going directly toward the children. The "nonprofit" groups mooch off of your money to pay themselves, because this world, it is selfish.
Telling your friend she doesn't look fat in that dress, part of you just doesn't want to feel bad about her crying if you tell her the truth.
We take the largest piece of cake, the easiest of work, and the bed all to ourselves at sleepover.
Think about everything you do and just how much of it is for yourself.
