Chapter 3 - Katie

Lighting strikes and thunder rumbles. My brain finally connects to my body and I run over to Kathy and kneel down. I don't care about my tights at this moment.
I shake her "Kathy." I say "wake up!" Nothing. I check her breathing and her pulse. She is alive. I sigh of relief and pray to god that she stays that way. I need dad but I can't leave Kathy here.
I decide to sit with her until someone comes.
About 10 seconds later Maria and Dad come running through the trail and stop when they see Kathy laying on the ground.
     Maria is the first one to come running and kneels down beside me.
     She checks Kathy pulse again the rolls her on her back and gives he mouth to mouth. Once she done dad has already called the ambulance and they are on their way.
    "Katie." Maria says and I nod. " Will you go get your mother?" I suck in a breath. That is the last thing I want to do. She won't believe me.
     Other times when I go to get Kathy and she won't cooperate I use an excuse similar to this so mom will come running to tell her to get moving.
     The 4th time she did that she scolded me and said she will never believe me again.
    I nod to Maria anyways. Hopefully mom will see the worry in my eyes and the mud on my tights.
I open the shotgun door. "Mom." I say and gulp. "Yes." She says not looking away from her phone. "Umm, well, Kathy is passed out and not waking up." I respond. Mom just smirked. "Sure." She said. "I swear!" I said panicked. If I could only get her to look at me. I clear my throat and she looks at me.
Yes! I think as her face goes pale. "I'll get out of the car." She says and opens the door.
Once everyone is at the scene of Kathy's fall (Even the medical people) They start asking what happened. All I could really say was that she fell off and the horse stepped on her leg
    After that they put her in a stretcher and sent her to the hospital.
      Dad went with Kathy because he offered first.
      As soon as the ambulance left mom turned to me and said "Katie, if you hadn't had previously made lies about this, I would've been there faster!" She almost screams.
     It takes every inch of strength to keep me from crying I nod and ask if we can just get going to the hospital. Mom nods and heads over to the car. Maria closes up the ranch and gets in her car to follow us to the hospital.
     It was a a silent drive to the hospital since things are currently awkward between me and mom.
As soon as we reach the hospital I hop straight out of the car and run into the Emergency area.
"I need to see Kathy McKillen." I say to the secretary.
"How do you know her and where is your legal guardian?" The secretary asks me.
"I'm her sister and my mother is in the parking lot." I point to my mom approaching the door.
"We will need to wait for her for confirmation." Says the secretary so I jester for my mom to hurry up.
She huffs and hurries to me and the secretary.
"Sorry." She says, flustered.
The secretary doesn't take her eyes off the computer screen and proceeds to ask mom questions. At this point, I didn't care I just wanted to see Kathy.
"Hurry up!" I say, getting frustrated, and mom just gives me one of those looks. I go to sit in a seat.
Five minutes later mom comes over saying that we need to wait for the doctors results. She then proceeds to call dad and tell him to come wait with us.
It's so boring in the waiting area. White walls, blue plastic chairs, and the secretary's desks. I just want to know if Kathy is ok.
