vega
(vey•gah)
the brightest star in the constellation of Lyra, the fifth-brightest star in the night sky and the second-brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere
~there was always something bothering her and that particular day, vega was not having it. this time it was the roller rink boy she couldn't get out of her head.
she couldn't quite seem to put a finger on why he was running through her mind, although her thinking was interrupted when her neighbor, luke hemmings, came barging through her bedroom door.
"vega you will not believe what i found in the-" the boy's rambling stopped once he noticed the girl's sulking. "oh come on vega you can't be in one of those moods again."
vega just sank deeper into her bed and looked over at him. "i can be in one of those moods if i want to thank you very much." luke just rolled his eyes and to her surprise, handed her a white box tied with a lavender ribbon. she quickly pulled the two strings on the sides of the bow and discarded the silky fabric on the floor (luke scoffing at this and picking it up anyway.) vega took off the lid and placed it on the bottom of the box.
a smile took over her previous pouting as she examined the wristwatch in her hands. the face was decorated with colored drawings of each planet in the solar system and the sun in the middle. vega, being the astronomy fanatic she is, fell instantly in love.
"luke this is amazing thank you so much." vega hopped up and embraced luke in a tight hug. he smiled at her satisfaction and they both took a seat on the soft rug on her floor.
now settled back in, vega returned to her previous state of dejection, and luke noticed. the girl rested her head on his lap and he let her honey brown hair slip through his fingers.
"what's on your mind v?" luke asked cautiously, from his previous experience these vega moods would either end up good or terribly wrong.
vega contemplated on an answer, her head was swimming with excuses, but she wasn't a liar. "have you ever been to that roller rink near ashton's house?" she thought back to earlier that day when the boy consuming her thoughts, well, ran her over.
3 hours ago;
vega was stuck in a small stuffy room at the regional rink with a bunch of 8 year olds. normally she loves kids but her slight claustrophobic issues were not helping when they were running all over the place.
the frustrated girl got up and walked, well more like stumbled, out of the door. before she could get three feet onto the rink, vega was being pummeled to the ground by a heavy body.
when vega opened her eyes she was met with a bright yellow shirt, particularly more neon under the black lights in the rink.
still holding his hand, they skated off of the rink and sat against the wall nearest to them. "so vega right?" she looked confused and he cleared the air "your name tag?".
"yep vega, and calum right?" they both glanced down at his matching name tag.
"calum, cal, hood, babe, any of those will do."
-
"hello vega??" luke waved his hand in front of her face.
"oh sorry i spaced out, his name is calum." vega blushed in embarrassment, not really concentrating on the situation at hand.
"so it's a guy that's got you in a mood?" luke hid his disappointment with a smirk. being hopelessly in love with a girl since 2nd grade was difficult for him, but he managed.
vega laughed lightly, she knew she was over reacting but couldn't let this one go. "he was nice." instead of explaining, she went to the kitchen to make herself some tea and luke followed closely behind.
"so are you going to tell me anything about what happened?" luke handed vega the sugar and a spoon. vega thanked him and didn't utter a word about the boy.
vega sipped her tea and contemplated if she should tell luke. they're both making a big deal out of nothing so why not stir up more trouble.
"luke grab your socks we're going skating."
