"Hey, you should at least try to be subtle when you cry you know." Someone said next to me. "Huh?" I wiped away my tears furiously, being brought back to reality. I looked over, and sitting there on the swing next to me was the transfer student from Kazakhstan. He had hair just a bit shorter than mine, darker skin, and icey eyes that made me think he has seen everything in the world.

"Who gave you the right to-" I started, but I immediately shut up when the boy looked over at me. Wow. He looked...better(?) looking at me than he did at that book. I feel something weird right now, like I need this boy's attention on me at all times. It feels weird, and I don't like it one bit.

"Why aren't you playing with anyone? Are you the social outcast or something?" The boy asked, looking back at his book. "Social outcast?! You're one to talk, you're by yourself too!" I yelled back trying to defend what little pride I had. "No I'm not. I'm with you, am I not?" "...You..." I grumbled, because he was right. "You're an interesting guy, ya know?" "Why? Because I'm sitting with the social outcast of our class instead of being with the other kids?" He asked, turning the page of his book.

"Well, yeah, it's kinda weird for you to sit by me. We've never even talked before." "Do I have to talk to you to want to get to know you?" "Huh?" I asked, confused at this boy's words. "Who even are you?" "Otabek Altin." He responded immediately, his eyes meeting mine again. "And you?" "Yuri Plisetsky, but my папа calls me Yurio 'cause his name is Yuri too. So call me that, alright?!" I commanded, my fiery gaze staring down Otabek. "Then you should give me a nickname too." Otabek responded, calm as ever. "Hm...Beka! From now on, your nickname is Beka, but only I'm allowed to call you that, alright?!" I yelled at him, because I would honestly be hurt if he let someone else use that nickname on him.

"Alright. But," Otabek started, closing his book and getting up from the swing, "if we're gonna call eachother these nicknames, we're more than just strangers now." "And what would we be then?" I asked him as I also got up from the swing, tucking the photo into my pants pocket. "Friends, Yurio. Have you had one before?" How dare he ask me that, trying to butt into my social life....Well, I actually don't have one so might as well start one. "I have no reason to answer that question. Have you?" "Nope." He just said it so quickly, and he didn't even look sad when he said that! Beka keeps surprising me in just the few minutes we started talking. It's kinda funny, to be honest.

"Are you gonna be my friend or not?" Beka asked, holding his hand out for me to shake it. I smiled a bit, because those were the best words I've ever heard in my life. "Only because I don't want you to be a loser in this school!" I said, grabbing his hand to shake it.
