My ears could tell when we had arrived before my eyes had even looked out the window; the yellow bus had transferred off the smooth bitumen road to the gravelly entrance of the prison.

My heart was thumping. As someone who had done bad things in the past I wasn't one to say I didn't deserve it. But, my attitude wasn't going to get me very far in an all male prison. I'd be dead in no time.

A large looking man in a blue uniform made his way onto the bus with a smug looking grin settling on to his face. His golden name tag pinned on his chest simply read 'Bellick.'

"Alright cons, we're not going to make this hard for ya. Get off the bus in single file and we will lead you to the administration." He bellowed, his voice stern and his eyes scanning over all the other newbies.

When his gaze landed on me, he appeared to be quite surprised and I could see a devilish glint in his eye that made me uncomfortable. It seemed as if he was thinking 'that's new,' like he'd never seen a girl before.

He gave me one last look before stepping off the bus, the first inmates following and slowly filing out of the folding doors. I was one of the last off, and the harsh sunlight that hit me made me quickly shield my eyes from the glare.

I blinked once or twice, and once my brown eyes adjusted I quickly interlocked my fingers together that began to quiver.

Men, everywhere. Most of them were lined up against the fence staring at the 'new meat', and as soon as they saw me they began to go crazy.

One could almost mistake them for wild animals; banging and crashing against the fence in some sort of wild frenzy. Insults and cat-calls were being yelled from almost every one of them, and I dropped my head to stare at my feet.

"Damn boys what do we have here?"
"I could tap that."
"Hey mami! Turn around!"

I put on my game face- I couldn't let them see me scared or I'd be more likely to end up in unsafe situations. I lifted up my face and crooked my neck to the side to look at them piling up to get a peek.

They were from all different backgrounds and ethnics, and the only thing any of them had in common was that they were all very bad people. Like me, apparently.

A hand pressed against my lower back startled me, and my gaze averted from the line of men to the one behind me. I recognised him immediately, it was Bellick. He leaned down lower towards my ear and I tried to move away from him in the limited space I had.
