Recap: Hey, are you sure you're okay?"

I shuffled to get my books and everything out. I mean I heard his question but what was I supposed to say, he stared at me waiting for an answer. I could lie and say yes, or I can tell the truth and tell him about how I've liked him since the sixth grade when he brought me down to the nurse when I was sick. Decisions decisions?

"Biology first?"

He continued to stare at me for about 10 more seconds then got his books out.

The whole time we were studying he would make these flirtatious comments & they kind of made me sick. How could you have a girlfriend & still flirt with another girl? But hey what do I know, I've barely even talked to guys.

"You have something on your cheek" He laughs a little
"Where?" I feel all over my face
He started laughing harder "You just spread the sauce all over your face" He smiles & picks up a napkin & wiped the sauce off. "Got it" He smiled and I smiled back and he started to lean in when his mom came in.

"Honey, are you-- Oh I'm sorry to just barge in I wasn't aware you had company."

His mom was very young she looks a lot like him, that's for sure. She was a couple shades darker than him. She doesn't have the caramel complexion but she does have the hazel eyes. In all honesty she looks as if she could be his older sister.

"Nah ma I'm not, Brianna?"

"Uh, um I guess I'm a little hungry" I said as I smiled awkwardly

"Oh goodie because I just made some pinatas and I think you're going to love it."

She left the room all cheery

"Yeah, sorry about that she's a very happy person" He looked embarrassed

"Don't be. She's sweet"

"Now, where were we?" His signature smirk reappeared

"Working on your geometry homework" His smirk was gone and he rolled his eyes

"You're no fun"

"It's homework, it's not supposed to be fun"

"No, not the homework. You. You're not fun. Do you even do anything besides homework and school? Do you go out on the weekends with friends? Parties, mall, anything?"

I looked down at my shoes

"Exactly what I mean. No fun. There's this party tomorrow night. You should come and I'll even hang out with you and show you what fun is."

"That doesn't really sound like my scene"

"Besides living in the library surrounded by books 24/7 and listening to everything your mommy tell you to do, what is your scene?"

The sad part was everything he just said was true.

The next day as I got ready for school I kept thinking about what Jay said to me. I wasn't living a life at all. That changes today. At the moment I was wearing baggy over worn black jeans and a grey sweatshirt that was laying on my floor. I unbuttoned and unzipped my jeans, took them off and layed it on my bed. Then took off my sweatshirt threw it in a corner as well as my undershirt, leaving me in my undergarments. I searched through my closet and drawers for something a little... more. I found some skinny blue jeans and a mustard long sleeved turtle neck crop top. I looked in the mirror and surprised myself. I found some all white pumas in my brother's room. I threw my long brown locks in a high ponytail.

"Oh crap!"

I checked the time on my phone and realized that I was late for Advanced Calculus. And assuming by the utter silence in the house no one was home to give me a ride to school, great just great. Just as I was searching in my purse for money to catch the bus, Jay calls me.

"What?"

"It's too early for you to give me an attitude, Ms. Marin."

"Sorry, I just am late for school and no one's home and I can't find any money to take the damn bus!" My voice escalated throughout listing the things that are currently going wrong right now.

"Say no more for Jay Daniels is on his way to save the damsel in distress"

'Damsel in distress' Rude.

"As annoying as you are, you probably just became my favorite person right about now"

"Aw, I am so touched. So, Ms. Marin, where is it that you live?"

I told him my address and he came here within the next 15 minutes. His company actually wasn't that bad at all. Once you get passed the fact that he's constantly flirting every 5 minutes and he has a girlfriend who happens to be the Devil's spawn. But other than that he was funny and charming. And a huge procrastinator.

"I've been in school since Pre-K. And I have never, ever been late or absent, not even once. But today I just had to put effort into what I was wearing and be like every other stupid girl on this planet and actually care about how I look. I missed an exam in Advanced calculus—an exam. And here you are just driving around so slow, my great grandmother could drive faster than this!" I began to start panicking.

"Calm down!" He chuckled. He's laughing at my anxiety building in my chest, "You can always make up the exam later. And if you've never missed a day from school then you aren't human. I am going to get food. I figured if we're already late might as well make it worth it right?" He found a parking spot at 5 Guys and came closer to my face. More like he leaned on the console, but same thing. I could feel smell the minty Colgate scent in his breath, I could imagine kissing him. "And by the way I'm glad you decided to be like "all those other stupid girls" because you actually look kinda hot today."

He winked and hopped out the car. I was so shocked by his compliment that I sat in the car smiling longer than I should had, he soon realized that I wasn't following him and came back to see me stuck in place. When he knocked on the window my whole body jolted, but finally opened the car door and followed behind him.

"You good, Marin?"

"Yeah, all good" I said still smiling. All the winks and smile, my thoughts were no longer on that exam.

Could I be falling for Jay Daniels?
