For the rest of the day, Megumi couldn't concentrate at all. Her feelings were mixed.
'who could it be?'
'n.y?'
'what should I wear?'
But once the clock hit six o'clock, Meg's mind went blank. Mechanically, she got dressed in sweatpants and a pink, fluffy sweater.
"Dad! I'll be going out for a while!" But she didn't expect an answer.
She wore her grey beanie, took her keys and left.
The afternoon was chilly, but the girl didn't mind.
She walked with a slow pace to the garden in her neighbourhood.
She looked around, admiring the scenery in front of her eyes. Various kinds of flowers, beautiful trees and a very small pond. She felt nostalgic, since she hadn't been there for quite a lot of time.
"Uhm.." Someone coughed from behind. She abruptly turned and came face to face with a boy she'd never expect to see.
"You..."
"Yes..me." He said with a smile. A genuine smile.
"How? I mean why?" She was dumbfounded.
"Is there to be a reason?"
"I don't know." Meg answered, her head hung low.
"Hey look up!" He whispered and caressed her jaw, lifting her head up so that their eyes could meet.
Butterflies were dancing in their stomachs.
They looked deep into each other's eyes.
Megumi saw sadness, something she didn't like.
Since young, she'd always try to cheer others up, ignoring what she felt. She didn't like others feeling down and she was often dragged down by those people. She was, and still is, stupid for caring about people who don't consider her a friend.
"Megumi-" He took a big breath and held her hands. "I like you." He said and immediately felt better, it was as if his shoulders became lighter, his heart fluttered, he was well aware he was acting like a teenager with uncontrollable hormones but he didn't mind at all.
She couldn't answer, because she wasn't sure if her feelings were the same with his, she didn;t want to say something she didn't mean.
"I'm not waiting a for an answer since it's very sudden but believe me, I'll make you like me!" Yuta smiled lovingly at Megumi and in response, she chuckled, her cheecks now burning.
And after debating for some seconds, with courage Megumi tiptoed and pecked Yuta's lips. It took him by great surprise, and before she could go down, Yuta held the sides of her face and pulled her back, kissing her again.
Time had stopped for both. The two teenagers felt things they weren't familiar with. They felt happy.
The pulled away and things got awkward for Megumi.
Her eyes never leaving the grass under her feet, she didn't know what to say after all.
"And now we won't know how to act around each other." Yuta chuckled before holding her hand.
"Well, isn't this normal?" She said, she hadn't realised they had been walking around the park, but she didn't mind.
"No no. We shouldn't be awkward at all!"
Yuta answered almost immediately.
This only made Megumi smile brighter, but soon after she began sniffing. She was a step away from catching a cold.
"We should be going. Let me drop you off—" Yuta exclaimed with excitement and Megumi was ready to protest but she hadn't the chance "— it's on my way, I'm not accepting anything except a yes."
"Fine dad" she laughed.
They walked side to side, hand in hand. There was silence, but it was something comfortable for them, they were okay with not talking.
And they were right outside Meg's building.
"Thanks!" She smiled, her cheeks still red from both the cold and Yuta's presence.
"Thanks." He repeated and quickly kissed her forehead.
Without saying anything else their ways were separated.
They thought their lives could have turned to the better.
But they thought wrong.
