I really wanted ice cream. It was a rather desperate need. When you crave ice cream, you can't just ignore it. I was poking around my freezer, trying to find the chocolate chip cookie dough when something exploded on my back. I gasped as water dripped down my legs. Another explosion -- this time on the back of my head. I ducked behind the island in the center of my kitchen and yelled, "Stop it!"

"I don't think so!"

I peered around the corner of the island to see the feet of my best friend, Ross Lynch. He chuckled and dropped down, his face right in front of mine. Water dripped down my back as I stared into his shining eyes. I shivered, but it wasn't because of the water on my back. "Scared, Laura?"

"No!" I said, trying to ignore the rapid beating of my heart. With him that close to me, I couldn't really think straight. "No, I'm not scared!"

"Then why are you hiding from me?"

"I don't enjoy being wet."

"No?"

I groaned as water fell on top of my head. It chilled me to the bone with all the ice-cold water slipping through my shirt, soaking me even more than already. "Did you seriously have to pop that right above my head?"

"Don't worry, I got me, too."

I hopped up, reaching for the pitcher of water and ice sitting on the island. A grin appeared on my face when Ross saw what was in my hand. His own grin slowly melted off of his face, but he didn't move away from me, which was a good thing. I so wanted to get him back. "Let's see how you like this."

I tipped the pitcher forward and the contents flowed out onto the boy sitting on the tiled floor. He yelled loudly, his voice reverberating around my kitchen, and he jumped up. His foot slipped out from under him, so I reached out, grasping his strong arms. Ross fell into me, his chin hitting the top of my head, making me wince in pain. He ended up being very close to me, which caused my nerves to go on high alert.

"That wasn't very nice, Laura."

"You're the one who started it, Ross."

"That doesn't mean you should do it to me, Laura. Be the bigger person."

"Whatever, Ross."

I knew he wasn't angry because the corners of his mouth were lifted up and his brown eyes were sparkling, like he was hiding something from me. He always seemed to look like that, which might be the reason why I liked him so much. I wanted to know what was going through his pretty little blonde head, no matter how hard it was for him to open up to me.

"What is going on here?"

I jumped away from Ross, right into the puddle of water. Thankfully, I didn't slide around in the icy water, so I said, "Ross attacked me with water balloons."

My mother glanced around the kitchen with a disapproving look, one that was always coming out whenever Ross and I were together. She one told me that she thought that when we were together, we only shared one braincell, but that wasn't true. We at least had two. "You two get to clean it up. And make sure you fill the pitcher back up."

I sighed and nodded, my cheeks heating up ever so slightly. It was embarrassing to be reprimanded by your mother when you were seventeen and in front of a friend. "Okay."

"Thank you." Mom looked at Ross and said, "Whenever you're over, there's always a mess. You're seventeen. Shouldn't that stop?"

Ross chuckled and shook his head, his blonde hair flopping in his eyes. "Wherever I go, a mess follows. But, I always clean it up."
