The week ended and Justin was probably back at campus already. "Well Zack asked me to prom." Lexi smiled. "Gosh Bella, at least act happy."
Bella smiled widely, still looking down at her book. "How about we go get some ice cream? You know you want some strawberry ice cream." Lexi nudged her, Bella smiling forreal this time.
"Let me get my-"
"Bell, there's nothing to be ashamed of. You look great with glasses. At least they aren't those big rectangular ones. They're small and simple, let's go." Lexi urged, Bella throwing on a sweater. It was fairly warm outside but so she changed her sweatpants into shorts, almost matching Lexi.
They got outside and walked side by side to the little ice cream shop on main street. It wasn't as packed as it usually is which was a relief. "May I take your order?" A waitress came to the table they had sat at.
"Can I get a small strawberry?"
"Cup or cone?"
"Cup." Bella answered, smiling.
"Same thing." Lexi answered. It didn't take long for the ice cream to be waited to the table. They sat eating the creamy deliciousness, until Lexi's eyes widened. "Don't turn around if you don't want to be seen."
"That makes me want to turn around, Lexi what is i..." Bella trailed off, dragging her i then stopped when she saw Justin. She turned around, and looked at Lexi. "I can't do it Lexi. I promised next time I see him.. I can't do it."
"His friend is staring right at me." Lexi furrowed her eyebrows. She gave a sarcastic wave, and Bella heard footsteps coming over. "Oh, hi Justin!"
"Hey Lexi, Bella."
"Hi." Bella answered, glancing at Ryan.
"Hi Bella! I'm Ryan." Ryan shook her heand, and Lexi's. "May we sit?"
"We don't mind." Lexi said, giving Bella a look. Justin looked at Bella.
"Since when did you wear glasses?" Justin asked, taking off her glasses and putting them over his eyes. "They aren't high perscription."
"I only use them to read," She whispered. "At home"
"Oh." Justin nods, and gives her glasses back. "So, my mom is coming up to Washington. Turns out I have an uncle that lives here and both my parents are meeting up there, and then we're all going out for dinner."
Ryan and Lexi were already in a converstion, so Bella and Justin were free to talk of it. "She called you?"
"My uncle looked me up in the yellow pages. I-I'm going to see my mom for the first time in three years Bella." Justin said, then gave an innocent smile. "You should come with me."
"When?"
"Next Friday."
"Prom's that day." Bella said, and rolled her eyes. "Eh, whatever. I don't have a date so I'll go."
Justin's eyes widened, and he shook his head. "Prom is important in a girl's life. I can't take you away from that." Justin poked her arm, and she giggled. "But I'm serious, you're going to prom."
"With whom, may I ask? Mostly everyone has a date, even Kyle does. Jake has a girlfriend for goodness sake! And he's only eleven." Bella said, and Justin smiled.
"Go to prom with me?"
Bella stopped from talking, and gulped. "What?"
"Come on Bella. It'll be fun. We can go to the family dinner first, then leave for prom?" Justin asked. "My prom got ransacked by a bunch of Mifflin High School students. They stole the disco ball, the kind and queen crown, even my date."
Bella stiffled a laugh. "What?"
"They had a hatred for me and stole my date." Justin nods, bursting into laughter with Bella. "I shouldn't be laughing because I haven't seen her since then."
"I guess I'll go, b-but if I get stolen I blame you." Bella cracked a genuine smile, and smiled at Lexi. Lexi smiled back happily, and they all continued talking about Justin and Ryan's prom.
