Briar's POV
We reach a house and Myles stops, I guess this is his house, I'm kind of shocked. I knew his house must have been big but it's actually huge, he's clearly got a pretty good job
"This is it I'm guessing." I say, he nods but doesn't say a word, he leads me around the back of his house into a garden, which I notice has a ladder crawling up the house into a tall window
"Up there." he whispers pointing to the ladder, I nod and then start walking up to it, I place my hands on the ladder, which is pretty slippery
"I'll be up there in no more than two hours." Myles says before leaving me alone again, I climb up the wet ladder. I'm terrified if I fell now I'd be dead, I just need to keep moving. One more rung, haul myself through the window. I'm in. I look around the attic but can't see anything due to there being no lights. I stumble about a bit before finding a chair, my eyes are adjusting slightly so I can make out the outlines of everything, once I'm sat down I close my eyes and let my ears try and figure out what's going on downstairs
"Dad, can you help me with my homework?"
"Mummmmm, Dom's thrown up."
"Jessyyyy, give it backkkk."
"I'm telling over you."
I can't really hear any full conversation, just little snippets. That is until I hear a door slam and then footsteps storming up stairs that seem pretty close
"CAN I GET NO PEACE AROUND HERE?" I hear a female voice scream before there's a burst of light and then darkness again, great. I'm now up here with one of Myles' children and it's probably only a matter of time before they find me. I hear the girl sigh and sit down on the floor before I hear almost silent crying
"Ughh, why? why are there so many?" I hear her mumble between sobs "It's too much to live with." she sobs, I want to say something but I don't feel able to because then I'll be found out "Maybe I should just kill myself, nobody would notice. There's so many of us anyway, I'm sure it would take Mum days to realise." she says, right that's it I'm going to have to talk to her
"Ermm, hi." I say not wanting to startle her but failing, she jumps out of her skin so I just say still, trying not to scare her
"Who are you and why are you here?" she asks in a terrified whisper
"I'm Briar, an old friend of your Dad's, he's doing me a favour today because my house has just been flooded." I whisper
"The Briar, the one that's dead?" she asks confused
"Yeah, well I'm not dead but that's me." I say trying to explain to her who I am the best I can
"But how?" She whispers
"I never died but I let everybody think that because I made mistakes and I wanted to live a new life." I tell her honestly
"How could you just leave everything, no matter how big a mistake I made I 'd never be able to leave." she tells me, I shake my head
"I was hurting and I'd hurt somebody, a new life just seemed easier. I guess I regret it now but I, I was scared of somebody but I didn't want to hurt them, so if I stayed dead then we could live separate lives and just forget. Or at least that's what I thought." I reply quietly
"You make no sense, who hurt you? who did you hurt?" she asks still confused
"can we strike a deal?" I ask, she nods her head "I'll tell you everything if you don't tell anybody anything?" I suggest
"I guess but if you hold any information back then I'm telling my Mum." she says, I nod
"One question, who are you?"
"I'm Jessy Briar Erlick, age 16. Child number two, twins with Jacob." she says making me giggle
"You've got that nailed." I tell her, she just laughs quietly.
"I want answers now though." she tells me
