It was raining.

Not hard, mind you, but the kind of wet where the moisture was hanging in the air, collecting in drops on your clothes though you couldn't feel it on your skin.

Honestly, though, you doubted you'd have noticed much even if it had been raining particularly hard, so absorbed were you in your own world, [fave band] blaring in your ears through your [fave colour] headphones, singing along to their song [fave song] at the top of your lungs. You were paying little attention to your surroundings or what anyone else around you was doing, but you had taken this route home so many times there was no chance of you getting lost because you weren't paying attention. Your feet tended to carry you there without you paying any attention anyway.

Today was different, however, as you found yourself hitting into something solid, and you stumbled back, a large pile of books hitting the ground around your feet as they fell out of the person who had been turning the corner you had been about to take at the same time you were, in the opposite direction. You fell silent as it happened, eyes widening.

"I'm so sorry sir." You told him quickly, dropping your headphones to around your neck as both you and the stranger you had bumped into dropped down to pick everything up before any of the loose sheets of paper in the pile could get too damp or be caught by the breeze. When you were sure you had everything you got to his feet as he did the same, straightening out the files he had picked up. You made to apologise again, but as you opened your mouth to speak he raised his gaze to you, and you found yourself staring into piercing pale blue eyes, and your words died in your throat. This man's eyes were beautiful, even now while his expression was pulled into a dark scowl, his long blonde hair damp where it hung over his shoulders, half hiding pointed ears. He was an elf, then. You didn't even realise you weren't speaking until his scowl deepened, and you noticed he was holding his hand out to you.

"If you don't mind returning those, please." He growled, and -oh, damn, that voice- that voice which was ... dripping with disdain, and you finally realised what he had said. This perfect stranger was going to take his things and go on his way and you were never going to see him again.

"You have quite a load there." You told him - it wasn't exactly a lie. You felt like you would probably drop the lot in your arms if you tried to pass it over to him, and you didn't want him to think you were completely incompetent. "I can help you out with it if you want. I was only going home, I can be back late."

A thick eyebrow was raised, and those blue eyes inspected you for a moment before he let out a small sigh, simply sounding bored now.

"Fine." Was all he said simply, stepping around you to continue on the path the way you had come. "Keep up then. I won't wait."

You grinned as you turned on your heel and trotted along after him, adjusting your grip on his papers as you did so in order to hold on to them properly. These were heavy, but despite having a pile only a little bigger than yours the elf didn't seem to take any issue with the weight at all.

"I'm _____." You told him as you fell into step beside him, a smile on your face along with a light pink blush. The elf looked straight ahead, the expression on his face morphing into one that implied he regretted taking you up on your offer for help.

"...Thranduil." He let out a long suffering sigh as he gave you the information, shaking his head as he kept his gaze fixed to the front. "And you can stop talking now."

You decided not to take his irritation to heart, the man didn't even know you after all. Instead you fell silent as he had requested, and this left the only sound that of the music still filtering from your headphones as you hadn't turned off your [music device] when you ran into him.
