“Chloe? Earth to Chloe. Hello?” I look up from my computer to find Mel looking down at me with concern. “Are you alright?”

“Yes, yes.” I glance at the time and realize the read through is about to start. “Let me just reply this email real quick.” I type out an email to some Hollywood agent, his client’s desire to change some of her characters lines. She was another guest star due to star in the show, and I won’t drop names but she is the diva queen.

But still, it is kind of nice to be surrounded by celebrities. Some of them can be really lovely. In fact, that’s how I met James. He was a guest star for a couple of episodes on Foreign Brains.

“Is Sebastian here?” I ask Mel as I hit send on the email.

“He just arrived.” She watches me carefully. “Do you think he’ll remember you?”

Sighing, I turn to look at her. “I hope not. I don’t think I was particularly memorable beyond being a horrible kisser.” I make a face at her.

Mel links her arms in mine as we walk toward the meeting room. “And how are you planning to play this?”

“Me?” I twist my lips into an empty smile. “I plan to be as professional as I can be. And if that fails, I’ll kill off his character in the most gruesome way possible.”

We walk in to the meeting room, still cackling with evil laughter. We fall silent the moment we realize that everyone is already waiting for us. “Quite an entrance, you two.” Our showrunner, Kevin, remarks drily. “Hurry up, take a seat.”

I grab the nearest chair and immediately regret it when I realize it is directly opposite Sebastian himself. I study him surreptitiously. He had grown even more gorgeous since we were teenagers, I had known that from seeing his movies, but he seemed more stunning in real life. His blue eyes were much more piercing in real life, and his wavy black hair was pushed back to reveal a high forehead. He had the required movie star muscles, but there was something more… rugged to them. Like he had earned them from toiling away in the mines, instead of pumping iron in a sterile white gym.

“Sebastian, I’d like you to meet our troublesome twosome. Melissa Kent & Chloe Sullivan. But don’t let that fool you, they’re two of our most talented senior writers, in fact they were the ones who conceptualized your character.” Melissa & I exchange a surprised look at Kevin’s unexpected compliment. He can be rather brusque, but he’s a sweetheart inside.

Melissa shakes Sebastian’s proffered hand, while I contemplate whether or not to stab him with a pencil. I did sharpen it to a perfect point. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr West.” Melissa is saying, her eyes shiny from awe. I’ll forgive her, as he is gorgeous, loathe as I am to admit it. “But it was really all Chloe’s idea.”

He turns his megawatt smile to me, and I look into his eyes, looking for the tiniest hint of recognition. There’s none. Relief sweeps through me, and a touch of disappointment. After all, I’m no longer the awkward acne ridden high school girl. I’m a successful career woman now, with an even more successful boyfriend.

He offers me his hand, and I study it for a second before taking it, smiling tightly at him. “Don’t listen to her, Mr West. She was the one who made your character charming. I preferred him arrogant.”

“Well, you certainly work together well.” He continues, smiling at us. He looks so genuine I almost believe him. Almost. “I loved the script, and I can’t wait to get started.”
