Mayas perspective

I walk out of the bathroom, surprised at what I had just gone through. Riley's first period? Wow, I mean I knew it would come, but it just feels weird.

I grab my jacket from my locker and run it back to Riley. Poor thing. It must be hard to get your first at school.

"Here you go Riley. Now let's go talk to Smackle."

She follows me into the cafeteria as I scan the room looking for Smackle. She's sitting at a small table with Farkle.

I walk over to their table with Riley behind me. Riley looks really scared.

"Hey Smackle! Could I talk to you for a sec? It's a girly thing."

Smackle looks at me, then at Riley, then at me again. We walk to an empty table to talk.

"So.. What's up?" Smackle asks.

"We're in this little situation right now.. Riley just started her first period today, and I don't have any pads on me. We were wondering if you had any??"

Im praying that Smackle has some, otherwise we would be in big trouble.

"Of course." She gives Riley a sympathetic smile. "Been there done that. Hope you feel better, Kiddo."

Riley smiles shyly.

Smackle grabs her backpack and sneakily puts a pad in between the pages of a textbook.

"Here you go. Glad I could help." Smackle says.

"Thanks Smackle! You're a lifesaver!" I say. I wave goodbye and take Riley back to the bathroom.

"You know how to use this, right?"

Riley nods and her face gets red.

"There's nothing to be embarrassed about. It happens to all of us. Trust me, I've leaked one too many times!" I say.

Riley's face just gets redder. She walks into the stall.

I shrug and go back to the mirror to fix my makeup. Man, this makeup stuff is a lot of work. My mom had just started letting me wear it.

I hear the toilet flush, and Riley walks out. She goes to the sink and washes her hands, still looking pretty upset.

"Riley, really, all girls get it. It's nothing to be embarrassed about!" I try to help her feel less embarrassed.

She finally speaks up.

"I know, it's just now I don't know how to tell my mom!" Riley says.

"Topanga will take it fine, she went through the exact same thing when she was your age."

"Yeah I guess. Let's go back to lunch. I'm reallly hungry."

"You can say that again!" I geab Riley by the arm and we run back into the cafeteria and stuff ourselves with food. All that action made me hungry.

Riley still looks upset.

"You know Riles, I could come to your house after school and help you tell Topanga."

"YES!! Thank you Maya!!" She says and hugs me.

So that's what she wanted! Oh, Riley.

The bell rings. I throw my lunch in the trash.

"See you after school then, Riley."

"Bye Maya. And thanks again."

Riley knew she could get through anything with her best friend Maya by her side.

THE END.
