[Harry's POV]
I knocked on the door to Amber's room. "Can I come in love?" I asked.
"Sure," I heard Amber say softly. I went in and saw her sitting on her bed, so I went to join her. "Do you want to talk about what happened between you and Connor?" I asked softly. Amber was quiet for a few seconds, like she's thinking about it, and then she answered.
"I guess so." She began. "When I was in grade eight, my father and I moved from Canada, where we had been living with my mother since I was four years old, to London. That's when I met Connor. We became best friends for all of that year, and part of grade nine. Then we got into a huge fight- I don't even remember what is was about, and we just weren't friends anymore.
"Then in the beginning of the grade ten, Connor asked me out. I was kind of surprised, considering what happed half a year ago. But I said yes anyway. We dated for three months, and I actually started to like him. Then I found out he was cheating on me. With a some popular girl, Kelly. So I broke up with him. He tried to win me back with chocolate and flowers, almost every day for the next two months. I gave in, believing he truly cared.
"That time we got to six months until I found him cheating on me with a close friend of mine, Marissa. I broke up with him, but he tried with the chocolates and flowers again. When he realized it wasn't going to work again, he tried poems. And he is a wonderful poet. So after four months, I gave him another chance. We dated again for five and a half weeks before I caught him kissing my best friend, Sarah. That truly hurt me. I broke up with him again.
"After completely ignoring him for eight months after that, he did something completely unexpected. He sang. He came to my house on a Sunday night before we started grade twelve, and sang."
Amber stopped there, but I could tell the story wasn't not over yet. "What did he sing?" I asked. Amber jumped a little, like she'd forgotten I was there. I noticed the tears in her eyes. She'd done a lot of crying.
"He sang... He sang 'Gotta Be You'. I was touched, and I gave him one last chance. I don't know why I did, it was stupid. It was the second worst thing I've down in my life." I was now curious as to what the first was, but I didn't pry. I let her continue with her story.
"At the end of October, I caught him again. This time, in the janitor's closet at school, with my cousin Olivia. I broke up with him then and there, and haven't seen him since then. Until today. Later I found out it was a dare for him to ask me out in the first place. And every time I broke up with him, he was dared to ask me back out. Each time he did one of the dares, his friends gave him 120€." Amber finished.
"Wow," Was all I could manage to say. That's low. Date a girl for money, cheat on her and break her heart? Even worse that Connor did it four times.
"Yep," Amber said. "I don't mean to be rude, but would you mind leaving? I'd like to be alone." Amber asked.
"It's not rude at all. I'll go." I said, and left Amber alone in her room.
[Amber's POV]
After Harry left, I got up and got my earbuds off the floor. Knowing music is my only friend now, I put my favorite song on: Counting Stars by One Republic and lie on my bed. I could listen to this song day and night for the rest of my life.
Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We'll be counting stars; yeah we'll be counting stars
I see this life like a swinging vine
Swing my heart across the line
And my face is flashing signs
Seek it out and ye shall find
Old, but I'm not that old
Young, but I'm not that bold
I don't think the world is sold
I'm just doing what we're told...Even though I'd heard this song before, I didn't get to hear the end because I fell asleep before the first verse is over.
-
I woke up when someone is shook my shoulders. "Go away," I mumbled sleepily.
"Then you won't leave. No clothes for you." Louis said, and he started to leave.
My eyes flew open at the word "leave" because I remembered I have to get my pills. Frantically I stood up and said, "No! I'm up, and I'm not staying here!"
Louis turns around. "Good," He said with a smile. "Now come on then."
I grabbed my backpack and follow Louis to the main room, where the other boys, Paul and Connor are. "Amber says she's coming." Louis told Paul.
"Okay then," Paul said. He hands Liam a list, then said, "Liam, go to Tesco with Amber and pick these things up." Paul turned to me. "Is your dad home right now?"
"He doesn't get home until ten on Saturdays." I said.
"Then take Amber to her house so she can get more clothes." Paul told Liam. "The rest of you, go take naps or something quiet. No social media, like usual." Everyone groaned. "I mean it. Go to your rooms." Connor, Harry, Louis, Niall and Zayn all leave.
"You two get going." Liam nodded and goes over to the mattress. I picked my bag back up and went after him.
Liam knocked on a part of the wall near the mattress and a control panel appeared. He typed in a seven number code and a door appeared. When Liam opened it, I saw stairs. Liam pulled his hood up and started to walk up them, then looked back. "Come on," He said, and I followed him.
-
Liam and I stood in front of Tesco for a few minutes before going in. "Do you just want to wait out here? It'll only be a few minutes..." Liam trailed off.
"No, I need to get something really quickly." I told him.
"I'll go with you," Liam said.
"N-no, it's really okay, I can do it alone." I said, not wanting anyone to find out what I needed. Liam sighed but gave in.
"I'll meet you right back here in exactly fifteen minutes."
-
I finished getting my pills and go back to meet Liam. He was already there, and by the look on his face, he'd been waiting for a bit. "What's in your bag?" He asked.
It contained my pills, but there was a 0% chance I would tell him that. "Nothing," I said, probably a little too quickly.
"Let me see it," Liam held out his hand. Like I would just hand it over. No way.
"There's nothing in it. I already told you." I clutched the bag tightly.
"If there's nothing in it, why won't you let me see it?" Liam asked.
"Because it's mine," I told him.
"We're not leaving here until you give me the bag." Liam said plainly.
We stood there for another ten minutes before I finally gave in and shoved the bag at Liam. "Here. You happy now?"
Liam opened the bag and pulled out the pill bottle. He read the label. "You have depression?" Liam looked at me quizzically.
"Yes. Now can I have my meds back?" I asked.
"Uh... Sure." Liam handed me the pills, which I shove in my backpack. We start walking in the direction of my house. "You could've just told me what-"
I cut Liam off. "No, Liam, I couldn't have 'just told you' that I have depression! It's not an easy thing to tell people! Just like it's not easy to tell people you have a sleeping disorder and anxiety!" I half-yelled.
Liam looks at me pitifully. "Love, it's okay, you don't-"
"Liam, just stop. That's why I don't tell anyone. I don't need your pity. You and my father are the only people that know I take those medications. And I plan to keep it that way. Meaning, don't tell anyone, not Paul, not Zayn, not Louis, and especially not Connor!" I said.
"Okay, I won't. I promise." Liam said, and I nod in approval. "Now, take me to your house! We only have an hour and five minutes until ten o'clock!"
