[Amber's POV]

We used the ladder my dad leaves outside to get into my second-floor bedroom. "Nice room," Liam said, looking around at my white and brown horse-themed room.

"Shut up." I mumbled, and pushed him towards the front window. "Stand guard and warn me if anyone's here." I told Liam and he stayed.

I emptied my backpack out of stuff I didn't need and started filling it with my clothes and other necessities. Once my bookbag was filled, I grabbed a smaller bag and put a few more things I needed in it.

Suddenly Liam came bursting into my room and shouted, "Your dad's here! Come on we have to go!"

"What? He's back already?" I asked in disbelief, then looked at my watch. It was only 9:30.

"Yes he's here and we have to go before he sees us! He's a zombie, remember?" I nodded, even though I didn't remember.

Liam and I climb down the ladder we used to get inside. I closed my window on the way out, and once we were both on the ground, Liam took the ladder down and put it back where we found it. He pulled his hood back up. Slowly we creeped around the side of the house, quietly as to try to not attract unwanted attention from my father.

I peeked around the side of the house and see my dad is already inside. "All clear," I told Liam, and we went towards the sidewalk. Suddenly my dad opened the front door and stepped outside. Liam and I froze in our tracks.

"Amber? Amber, honey, what are you doing here? I thought you were spending the weekend at Eve's house." My dad asked me. "And who is the person you brought with you?" My dad gestured to Liam.

"Oh, well, you see dad," I started to say, and then I thought of a lie to tell him. "Eve's boyfriend, Ashton and I came over here because I forgot my toothbrush. Ashton here came with me because it's so dark and I didn't want to get mugged." Or get attacked by zombies like you. I added silently.

"You could've just called me. I would've brought it over." My dad said plainly.

"I-I didn't think you'd be home." I replied. "Well Ashton and I are going back to Eve's house! Bye dad!" I said. Liam and I walked as fast as we could away from my dad without looking suspicious.

"That was too close." Liam said, once we were out of sight of my house.

"Yeah." I agreed. At this point we were almost to the mailbox where we go underground. "Uh... Liam? I don't mean to alarm you, but there are a few of zombies following us." I said, glancing behind us. "One of them is my dad!" I tried not to freak out, but I was internally panicking.

"What... Oh my gosh, you're right. We have to get underground as quick as possible!" Liam told me, and we both ran towards the mailbox.

The zombies were on our heels now, so close that if I slowed down even the tiniest bit, they could've grabbed me. I can't believe my dad followed us! Liam got to the mailbox first, and hit the few buttons. I made sure I'm not standing where the hole is, and watch it open while keeping an eye on the zombies. "Liam, look out!" My dad and another zombie were right behind him.

Liam pulled out a gun and quickly tried to shoot them, missing one but hitting my father. He fell to the ground, unmoving. "No!" I yelled, trying to get over there, but Liam stopped me.

"Amber, underground, now!" Liam said, pulling me into the tunnel with him. "No!" I yelled a second time, trying to claw my way back up, but the door to the surface closed. Liam and I hit the mattress with a thud, my two bags landing around us.

"Oh my God." I said, and the full realization hit me.

My dad is dead.

Dead.

Gone.

I collapsed into an uncontrollable fit of sobs while everyone gathered around me and Liam.

[Liam's POV]

"What the hell happened?"

"What did you do?"

"Why is she crying again?"

The boys were all asking questions and I had to tell at them to shut up before I could say anything.

"Her dad is dead." I said plainly.

"What?" They all shouted, shocked.

"Someone go get Paul. Then I'll tell you what happened." I said, sitting down on the mattress next to Amber. Zayn ran off to get Paul.

"Amber, it'll be okay. I promise. I'm sorry I did that, but he was a zombie, remember?" I tried to tell her, but she wasn't listening. She wouldn't stop crying, so I let her be.

"What did you do?" Harry asked me. He was listening to what I had told Amber.

I shook my head. "It doesn't matter right now."

"What the hell? I send you out for groceries, and when you come back I find Amber crying and you saying her dad is dead?" Paul asked.

"I can explain." I said quickly.

"Oh, please do." Connor said, smirking at me.

I shoot him a glare, and then looked over at Paul. Slowly I began to explain how her dad died, and how we needed to find somewhere else to live.

"So you shot her father?" Louis asked. Everyone looked shocked. They couldn't believe that I would do something like that.

"Yes. I didn't mean to. I was trying to protect her. Her dad was a zombie anyway." I replied.

"Whatever. The zombies know where we're hiding now. Go pack. In the morning we are relocating. I'll contact the queen." Paul told us. "Harry, take Amber to her room." Harry picked her up, and Niall grabbed her bags.

"I got it." Harry said, taking the bags from Niall. Niall shrugged and we all go to our rooms while Paul made a phone call.

[Third Person POV]

Harry took Amber to her room and set her on her bed. She'd stopped crying, but she hasn't said a word.  Amber turned away from Harry, not wanting to talk to anyone. Harry set her bags down, and goes over to her.

"Are you okay, Amber?" Harry asked, softly. Amber spun around, and Harry could see her eyes. They were puffy and red.

"Harry, do you think I'm okay?" Amber asked angrily. "I have no family left! I just watched my dad get shot! My mom died of lupus! My twin sister-" Amber cut herself off, realizing she'd said too much.

"You had a twin sister?" Harry asked. "What happened to her?"

Amber looks at the ground. "I never had a twin sister." She mumbled.

"Yes, you did. You were just about to say what happened." Harry said. "Look at me." Harry tilted Amber's head up, forcing her to look him in the eye. Amber takes a deep breath and started to talk.

"M-my sister, Alexandria. We were t-twins. One day, when we were twelve, our mother took Alex to get her nails done. I had the flu, so I stayed home with dad. It was a cold, snowy night in Canada. On the way home, a big t-truck passed a red light... and... and..." Amber was sobbing into Harry's shoulder.

"Shh... It's okay love. You don't have to finish." Harry said, rubbing circles on Amber's back. Amber looked up at Harry. "N-no, I will. My therapist says talking about it makes it easier." Amber said, and she continued.

"A big truck passed a red l-light and it hit them. M-mom only broke both her legs and fractured a few of her ribs b-but Alex... Alex... She died." Amber finished, staring at the ground. Harry took Amber's hand, and with his other, wiped away Amber's tears.
