gilinsky;

last night i came back home to my mom's house to hangout with my family. my mom was consistent on isabelle joining, but isabelle refused to intrude on our family night and decided to stay at home.

"so jack." my mom says, "how's isabelle been doing?" she sat down on the couch, across from me, and drank the alcohol in her hand.

"i don't know. upset? she gave me something yesterday that karen wanted to give me when the time was right." i tell her.

"the promise ring with the note?!" my mom exclaims, immediately getting more intrigued.

"yeah, how'd you know about it?" i ask my mom, confused to how she knew and never tried to do anything about isabelle and i's broken friendship.

she laughs, "jack, have you forgotten how close karen and i were. gosh, she was my best friend." tears began to appear in my mom's eyes, so i dropped the topic. that was, until she brought it up again, "anyways, i think isabelle is the girl for you, jack. she's such a sweet and kind young girl, and we know what kind of home she came from. and come on, she's gorgeous! gosh, no wonder why she's a model! you two also have history as best friends."

"yeah, yeah. i know. i just don't know how to bring it up to her. we've never had a date either." i shrug and slouch into the couch.

"so what? ask her on a date! take her out and then give her the promise ring. it's not too weird because you two kids didn't just meet." she pushes the subject on me.

"alright, i guess you're right. shouldn't i maybe wait until her and i are back in la?"

"why? so she can be back to being a busy girl and then she's so stressed that she might say no?" my mom raises her eyebrows, "do whatever you want, jack, but trust me... isabelle has always been a girl to not wait around. you know that. she doesn't like people wasting her time. nate wasted her time, and look what happened with them. yeah, maybe he didn't cheat on her, but with the growing lie that he kept from her, he wasted her time and she saw that and ended it. she didn't hesitate, and she didn't look back."

she's right. and i hate to admit it.

"okay, you're right." i mumble, "thanks, mom."

"you're welcome. now go back and see her." i nod and begin to gather my phone and keys, "come visit before you leave for la!" she yells as i'm at the front door.

"alright!" i yell back, "goodbye!"

when i pull up to isabelle's house, her car is in the driveway, along with someone else's.

the door is open and there's a boy standing there, isabelle in front of him but remaining inside her house. i begin to recognize him as i get closer.

"hey, jack." isabelle says and the boy turns around. once he turns around, i know my blood is beginning to boil, and i and know isabelle is aware of it.

"hey gilinsky!"
