Chapter 2- Promises
*
Amelia stared at her home, her home that was part of the middle faction amongst the werewolves. She ran her fingers through her ginger curls, twirling a few stands in between her forefinger and her thumb, a habit that keeps her calm even in the darkest of hours. The pathway up the stone archaic steps lead to her home; where other families have lived before them. Families that have lived from century after century in this home, there was no escape except one. Their suffering only ended once the heart of the child, that represented wealth, stopped.
That was when their suffering seized to exist.
The wind created a path of goose-bumps on her arm as she slowly moved towards her home, in a slow jog up the path. Amelia let a sigh escape her lips, she wished for something better. She wished that she were a better daughter, one that was of use to the family. She was of use to the family in all the wrong ways. She is forever in the debt of her parents, anything they asked for she did it without question; all she ever wanted was to make them proud, but as she stared up at the house that her parents were assigned, she realized that making them proud was no easy task when she was the reason for their misery, their reason for being put in the middle faction.
“Amelia, come inside,” her mother never voiced politely towards her. There was never a “Please” or a “Thank you” it was more of orders and commands that she had to oblige to.
“I’m here mother, is something wrong?” She asked as she gripped the bronze knob and pushed though the door. She met her mother at the stairway landing, and watched as her mother gracefully walked down the steps, her royal blue dress draping on the steps that she had passed. Herr brown eyes nearing to a black, and her smile that never rested on her face when Amelia was the only child around.
“I need you to clean the house today, and for the next week. Your brother is going to the ritual and your sister is going to the other ritual, and we wouldn’t want their mates to come to an unclean place.”
“Of course, I’ll start now,” Amelia nodded at her mother before scurrying off to the side in search of her cleaning utensils.
‘The ritual,’ Amelia sighed as she thought to herself. ‘its going to be all about Jackson and his new mate in this household and Elizabeth and her’s.’ Amelia grabbed the broom from its place, in the closet, and began sweeping away the little dust bunnies, almost microscopic, but that does not mean they are not seen. Amelia bent down, her knees met the granite marble floor, as she put her palm towards the sky, and slowly picked up the little dots of dust that would not come up with the dustpan. The door opened, and she heard her mother scurrying to get down the stairs to greet no other than her siblings.
“Jackson and Elizabeth, how was your day out,” her mother’s tone was cheerful, her eyes adoring, and her smile genuine. Amelia dreamed and wished for it one day to be for her.. but that was only a wish that could not come true and only a dream that will never interact with reality.
“It was lovely mother, all the lights are being put up for the ritual, and everyone seems nervous, but it a good type of nervous.” Elizabeth replied cheerfully as her brown eyes looked up at her mother with a gleam of happiness.
“Splendid my dear, and yourself Jackson?”
“It was all well, I’ve gotten the things that you’ve requested on the list, though as I was resting at the other flower stand, I happened to notice something.”
