The buckets rested in Amelia’s hands, and she clutched onto them tightly. The rustiness of the bucket smeared onto the palms of her hands, and reddened them slightly. Amelia was still stunned by how Sebastian had defended her against the treatment that she had become accustomed to. As Amelia was about to take her steps off of her property beside the cobblestone path, the grass twined around her legs, Sebastian began to speak.

“Jackson, it is not kind of you to allow your sister to carry the buckets; have you no mannerisms?” Sebastian exasperated.

“But they’re empty its not like those pails even weigh that much.” Jackson replied with distaste.

Amelia had grown accustomed to carrying the pails on her own, empty or full she had grown to bear the pain she felt deep in her muscles when she carried for too long. The wooden pails smacked against her knee repeatedly and against her thigh. The wood chips didn’t splinter her skin anymore because of the amount of water that washed away its sharpness.

As Amelia stared at her brother, who was struggling to be the person of liking to Sebastian, the smallest part of her felt sad even though she had no right to. She was sad because her brother was treated as a prince in their household even though he was far from that. He had not had anyone teach him to speak correctly- without insult- because it was how her father always spoke. Jackson was simply mirroring the man that was supposedly more superior, but deep in her heart she knew that neither her brother or father were not as superior as they claimed. She knew that her brother had the ability to change his behavior, but he did not have the willingness to comply, and so unfortunately he was a walking clone of their father.

“It does not matter how light or heavy something is, a man should always assist when need be.” Sebastian reprimanded. His brown hair shuffled with the wind as he narrowed his crystal eyes at Jackson.

Jackson grumbled as he snatched the buckets from Amelia’s hands and carried them with ease yet a very known annoyance. Amelia pressed her hands to her side, wiping off the dirt from the metal handles.

“If you don’t mind me asking Amelia,” Sebastian specified when he saw Jackson’s head turn towards him with pure annoyance that encompassed his body and spread outward like a plague. “why exactly are you the one to bring the water most of the time?” Sebastian asked. He had assumed that she constantly brought the water because of the way she held her own as she carried the pails that clanged noisily against her side, and the way her facial expression was when Jackson had spoke to her rudely.

Just as Amelia was about to reply, her mouth open prepared to speak, she shut it quickly as she remembered the promise she made to her mother. She had promised not to speak to the Alpha, Sebastian, and as the daughter who only wishes to do right, she had to oblige.
