Here we go🌸___________________________
"Get out!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. "Get out get out get out." she stomped her foot. I had never particularly liked her, always too loud, or too bright, always saying the wrong things at the wrong time.
You know that one story with the poor girl whose dad dies and she left alone with her stepmother and her ugly stepsisters? The story that has the dirty poor girl whose fairy godmother magically appears and turns her into a gorgeous princess? Yea, well, that's my life just a little bit more modernized.
When I was seven my dad died, he left me with my actual mother. My father had always tolerated her, but I suspected that he never really loved her. They were forced to marry when they were twenty one because of their parents, but they didn't really know each other.
My father also left me with my three sisters, Mina, Cindy, and Maggie, who were practically living Barbie dolls. They had perfect bodies, hair, faces; their outer appearances were gorgeous. I always envied that, however, their personalities were lacking in the perfect department. They are terrible; always treating me like trash. I cannot wait for the day I can leave this hell hole.
As for me? I am fifteen and on my own. I live in the spare bedroom above the garage and it's perfect for me. I am able to keep to myself in this house of Barbies and it's the same safe routine every single day. Wake up, brush out my long dirty blond hair and put it up in my signature ponytail, brush my teeth, wash my face, put on my everyday athletic clothes that I've had since forever, and before I leave every day I sneak a peak at myself in the full length mirror behind my door. I have watched myself evolve over the past few years, going from this small shapeless stick to a tall curvy pear. Pretty, but not pretty enough. If only I could look like my sisters.
"Can't you hear me little princess? I said get out!" she yelled again. I stood up from where I was perched on the office window and awkwardly walked out. "Lunatic," she mutters as I walk by, I scoff and turn to her, instantly regretting it as she slapped me across the face. "Don't you have a bathroom to clean?" she hissed in my ear. I nodded and walked off, glad to be out of her way. Out of all of them, I swear she was the meanest.
As I walk into the high-class, brand-name, designer bathroom, I see the second oldest, Cindy, balancing awkwardly on the tub ledge, I laugh a little and sit next to her. See, Cindy never saw what was so bad about me; she wasn't mean, well, except when we were in front of Mina and Maggie, she was, oddly enough, my best friend. She was the one that helped me with all of my problems, when I was first to live here, when my first boyfriend broke up with me, when I was in the first stages of depression, she found me and shined a light on all the darkness. And I was grateful for that.
"Again?" I ask, as she paints a shade of deep red onto her toes.
"Only the best for a princess," she says, mocking Maggie in her signature line.
I giggle a little and lean onto her shoulder, "Why are they so mean?" I sigh, getting up again to get the cleaning supplies.
"Because they see you as competition," she says, finishing up her nails and blowing on them.
I laugh, "Yea, sure." I grab the Kleenex wipes and start wiping down the counter and sinks.
I walk back over and grab her hand, guiding her out the bathroom and onto the bed, "Don't worry, you'll get back your bathroom" I giggle and walk back into the bathroom, turning on the stereo and start to clean. I finish up on the bath and move onto the shower, grumbling about how stupid it is they couldn't get a maid, but no, it's 'too expensive.' As if, I think to myself, and continue to clean the bathroom.
I hear Cindy lightly singing out in the bedroom and recognize the tune. I smile at the lullaby and walk out to join her. Together, we walk out into the living room and we see Maggie and Mina smiles at me apologetically and walks over to join them.
"Why aren't you cleaning the bathroom you little piece of scum," Maggie sneers.
"You belong in the garbage," says Mina.
Cindy walks up to me, tossing her hair over her shoulder, "What happened to your clothes, you rag doll, maybe you should buy some new ones, but oh! You can't, because you don't have any money," she made an emphasis on the money and makes a little pouty face. She struts back over to where she was standing, laughing along with all the girls.
I scoff again and inform them that I had already cleaned the bathroom, challenging them to check if they didn't believe me. As mom walks in, they all correct their posture and start complimenting her makeup and choice of clothing. I, personally, think she looks like a bird. But that's just me.
