When I reached the hospital, I was greeted by Miss Rosaline, the nurse who sat at the reception table. I’ve been coming here every afternoon after school for months now and the nurses here have gotten used to seeing me and vice versa. I made my way to the elevator and up to floor eighteen. I know the routine. I walked down the corridor and smiled at some of the patients. Then I walked into Room 180L and my smile just grew wider. “Hey Julie” he greeted. There was a doctor in the room with a clipboard and a stethoscope, listening to his heartbeat. When the doctor was done with the checkup, he walked up to me and said, “Logan is making a great recovery, the wounds are healing in estimated time and soon, he’ll be out of here as good as new”. “Thanks doc.” I said, beaming. Logan was beaming too, but when has he never?
“So…. How was school?” he asked. “Good, the usual, just a bit lonely in class.” I told him. “How about you?”
“Well you heard the doctor, I’m making great recovery!” he quoted.
Indeed he was. Since the incident, Logan had to undergo a heart surgery to seal up the tear in his heart in order to save him. It was a risky surgery with a slim chance that he’ll make it out alive. The doctors decided to give it a try and I never gave up on him, I had hope. I was hopeful that he would make it. He would be fine again. He would survive. His heart might be weak physically, but he had a strong spirit. And I was right to have hope in him. After the long surgery, Logan made it out of the operation room with his heart beating. And here we are now, months later, with Logan making quick recovery.
As I helped Logan walk out of his room to the indoor garden on the ground floor as his daily exercise, I can’t help but to think how much has changed over the course of time. With his arm on my shoulder, I supported him as we strolled in the garden. I was lost in my thoughts and Logan must’ve noticed as he whispered in my ear, “What got you into such deep thinking?” “Oh.. I was just thinking about how my life has changed, thanks to you.” I told him.
“Really?” he said.
“Yes. Well I’m sure you remembered when you found me up on the rooftop? I was about to jump.” I said.
“Yea, you said you lost all hopes in life back then.”
“Yup, but you stopped me. And since then, I changed. I went from a depressed person to who I am now; a person with hope. You gave me a new vision of life. Even my once crippled hand is working again, all thanks to you Logan. I can’t believe how much has changed since you found me.”
“Well I’m glad I found you. I’m glad that I could change your life.” He said smiling.
I mirrored his expression as I couldn’t agree more. With his hand in mine, I thanked God for Logan, for the hope in our hearts that brought us this far. My life indeed, has changed a lot. In fact, it will never be the same again.
A/N: Cry With You by Hunter Hayes is the song on the side :)
Hello! Thank you so much for reading my short story here :D It's the first time I wrote a complete short story in the teen fiction genre (considering how this started as a school assignment I had no choice but to complete it anyway, but still, I feel acomplished! ). I hope you enjoyed the story as much as I enjoyed writing it. Feel free to vote and comment! :)
Love,
Joanne :)
