"Dark as midnight, six-pack Coors Light, you don't look the same" - Lia Marie Johnson
-2003-
The little girl was woken up by loud screams and dump hits. She startled up and listened. She was too clever to just run downstairs and ask for Mummy and Daddy. She had learned to stay silent, to observe and not say a thing.
She couldn't understand the words the voices were screaming but she knew they were angry. She also knew her Mummy was crying. She hated it when Daddy made her Mummy cry but that happened often.
The little girl slowly slid out of bed, her bare feet touching the cold ground. She shivered but she didn't go back into bed. She slunk to the door on her tiptoes and opened it ajar.
She peaked through the gap but she couldn't see her parents. But she could clearly hear them fighting. Her Mummy was screaming, then glass shattered on the kitchen floor which caused a moment of silence. After this short moment of silence the screams became even louder and all that that little girl wanted to do was run and hide. She hated to see her Daddy like a monster, to see how he changed when night set in.
The room was filled by blue and red lights that finally stopped the fight and the screams. Men in a blue uniform took her Daddy and brought him away.
This was the last time she saw her Daddy.
