Human's POV**

Racing through the woods, I don't turn back. The mutants have caught my scent, and they'll never let it go. Do to being blindly aware of my surroundings, I stumble over a small bush. I tumble through weeds and ferns. Once I gain control, I bring myself to my feet. Brushing off dirt from my pants, I hear a twig snap in front of me. I look up, and that's when I see it.

A wolf.

--------------

Wolf's POV**

I seem to pad endlessly through this dense forest. I'm growing weak, not having eaten for a few days. My pack has died off. These mutants have brought diseases, and killed my family, my mate. I am no longer Alpha. Without a pack, I'm a loner. A quiet rustle sounds in the distance. My keen ears perk up, and I trot towards the sound.

I reach my destination. The thing that made such reckless noise was a human. It looks up, and stares at me. I blink, and take a step back. The human watches me a moment longer, then reaches towards me. I leap back, brown eyes narrowed, ears laid neatly against my head. I crouch, and slowly curl my lips back, showing my menacing fangs. I release a dangerous growl, informing the human to leave. His fear scent surrounds me. I stand taller, letting my broad shoulders and muscles ripple through my fur. [I am Alpha. I always will be.]

Human's POV**

It's rare to come across a wolf nowadays. These mutants are like zombies, but stronger, faster, smarter. They decide whether to Turn the prey, or Kill it. Most wolves have died because of them. It's even rarer to come across such a strong wolf, most are shy, and skinny, helpless, and weak. But here I am, facing an obviously strong wolf... except it's towering over me, ferociously. I'm on the ground, against a tree stump. Hopeless. By the way this wolf is acting, its got to have an alpha past. It rakes its claws along the soil, and inches its nose closer to my face. The heat of the wolf's breath consumes me. One thing's for sure;

I should have never tried to touch it.

Wolf's POV**

Staring aggressively at the human, I can hardly breathe with the strong scent of fear. I realize he did not mean to offend me. Releasing a breath, I step back, allowing for the human to stand. He hesitates, then glances at me.

"What? It's not like I'm going to eat you!" I snort. The human raises one of those bushy hair things on his forehead.

"You can't understand me," I murmur.

"Are you trying to say something?" I don't speak 'human', but I can make out You, Trying, to, and Say.

"I'm not trying, I am speaking!" I growl, irritated. [Of course I can talk!]

"Oh," he pauses. "Are you talking?" Instead of wasting my time, I bark approval. The human nods, acknowledging my answer.

"Say, do you know of those mutants? I was being chased by them... I hate just running. Maybe we should... fight?" He wonders. I think for a moment. [You, Know, mutassns...? I can not understand what he meant. Mut... ants... mutants? Mutants! I, chased, them, hate, running, we, fight?] I am pretty sure I know what he wants. I flick my tail, showing agreement. [There's no turning back... not now.]

Human's POV**

"Let's go find a stick or something, I need a weapon, I don't have fangs like you," I say. The wolf barks. [I only wish this wolf and I had more time to get to know each other...] I begin walking.

...

After searching for makeshift weapons, I had two small, sharpened sticks like knives, one medium sized branch as a spear, and a long, thick stick as some sort of a sword. The Wolf had gotten lucky and was able to catch a squirrel along the way. Man, I bet he was craving deer or something. A small squirrel is only a scrap to this wolf. I sigh. We've both suffered enough. It's time to fight for our friends and family. By the look in the wolf's large brown eyes, he knows we won't make it out alive. But hell, we'll put up a damn good fight. We set off to find the mutants.

...

The wolf growls deeply. I focus on where the wolf is pointing with his nose. A horde. A whole, massive, vicious horde.

"It's time," I murmur. The wolf looks over at me, and whimpers. Our gazes interlock, and we say a silent goodbye.

Wolf's POV**

I blink up at the human. [This is the end. My final battle.] Turning back to the snarling, spitting mutants, I let a rumbling growl emerge, as scrape my claws along the soft soil. They advance forward. Howling a battle cry, the human and I exchange one final glance. Then, without hesitation, we rush into battle.
