The sound of loud and deep voices along with the smell of freshly baked goods floated into Isaac's room and overwhelmed his previously dulled senses. He rubbed his eyes tiredly as he slowly sat up in his twin-sized bed, the dark blue quilt falling off of his shoulders to reveal his scrawny bare chest. A large yawn took up half his face before he was hesitantly getting out of bed and making his way downstairs.

He slowly walked over to the source that woke him up so annoyingly and found the entire pack already seated at his dining table, food being stuffed into their mouths as they joked and laughed. Isaac could see Sam and Emily being the regular lovey-dovey couple that they normally were and he internally gagged at the sight. He thought the two were a cute couple, he just didn't think they needed to display the fact that they were a couple all the time. But it's their house, so they can do whatever the hell they want, at least that's what Sam normally told him.

Isaac pulled out the only empty chair left at the table and took a seat, immediately beginning to pile food onto his plate.

"Morning, everyone." He greeted. The pack, which only consisted of Paul and Jared right now, turned to look at Isaac.

"Morning, mini alpha." They replied in unison. Sam and Emily walked out of the kitchen to join the three boys at the table. Isaac nodded his head at them in greeting since food was already being stuffed into his mouth. Sam ruffled his hair as he took the seat beside him as Emily kissed his forehead.

"Good morning, Isaac. Are you excited for your first day of high school?" She questioned, sitting down to eat breakfast herself. Isaac swallowed all the food in his mouth before answering.

"More nervous than excited, but yeah I guess."

"Don't let the pale faces intimidate you." Jared said, a mocking grin on his face as he bit into a fried sausage.

"I don't understand why you even want to go to that school anyway." Paul spoke up, shaking his head as he downed his glass of orange juice. Isaac opened his mouth to respond, but Sam had beaten him to the punch.

"He just wants to see his little friends. It's the only reason he applied to that program."

"Shut up, Sam that's not even the whole story." Isaac rolled his eyes as he stood up to take his dish over to the sink.

"Oh really? What is the whole story then? Because you really don't seem to understand that you're almost at the age where you're supposed to shift."

Isaac groaned as he ran his hands down his face in frustration.

"I'm not going to listen to this again!" He quickly stormed past the dining table and made his way up the stairs. He could hear Sam calling out his name and Emily advising him to just leave him alone which Isaac greatly appreciated.

He slammed his room door shut and plopped down on his bed, breathing out heavily. Ever since he told Sam that he was going to go to Forks High School instead of the school on the reservation, all he's ever talked about is how Isaac was going to shift soon. How did he know that? Not all everyone who had the gene shifted at fifteen, some shifted at sixteen and even then how did Sam know Isaac was going to shift at all. Maybe Isaac was some weird exception to this centuries old legacy that has been passed down from generation to generation without fail.

Isaac sighed as he shook his head at himself, knowing that what he was thinking was ridiculous. Him shifting was practically inevitable. Honestly all of this talk about shifting was making Isaac's blood pressure rise.

Isaac raised his head from where it was hanging to glance over at the clock that rested on the wooden nighstand that stood beside his bed. His dark brown eyes widened in alarm once he saw how late it was and he was immediately launching off his bed and over to the closet.

Fuck I'm going to be late!

♡♡♡

Isaac's legs ached as he pushed them to walk faster down the empty halls of Forks High School. He couldn't believe that he was late on his very first day of school. With his argument with Sam, to stepping in a mud puddle and now this, today was just not going his way.

He repeatedly glanced down at the crumpled map that also doubled as his schedule, making sure he was going in the right direction. When he saw the numbder 413 in small white text beside a classoom door, he exhaled a sigh of relief. Sure he was late, but at least he finally made it.

He took a few minutes to catch his breath and to calm his nerves before he was opening the door and hesitantly stepping inside. Just as excepted, as soon as Isaac stepped into the room all eyes were on him and the everyone present was dead quiet.

Isaac kept his eyes straight ahead and walked over to the teacher, mumbling his apologies before handing the teacher the late slip a redhead in the front office had given him. The teacher, Ms. Paulina, read over the slip before nodding her head.

"Don't let this be a regular occurrence, Mr. Uley. You can go take a seat over there beside Ms. Cullen." She pointed over to a table in the back of the room. Isaac began making his way over to his assigned seat, noticing that someone else was occupying the table as well.

She was pale, extremely pale yet Isaac couldn't help but admire how smooth and soft her skin looked. Her dark brown hair seemed to frame her face in shiny waves that he just wanted to run his fingers through. And although he couldn't see her eyes due to the fact that she was staring down at the paper in front of her, he knew they would be just as beautiful as the rest of her was.

Isaac sat down beside her after hanging his backpack on the back of the chair. His eyes never left the girl's figure, not even after Ms. Paulina resumed her lesson. The girl never once looked up at him either, but he could see how tense she was. Her right hand was gripping the bright yellow pencil so tightly that Isaac thought it was going to snap in half.

  Maybe she's just extremely shy.

His presence was probably making her uncomfortable and that made him upset. The last thing he wanted to do was make her feel bad, so he decided that maybe by introducing himself it could help relieve some of the tension that was hanging around them. Or well he hoped it did because if it didn't then the rest of the class period was going to be extremely uncomfortable.

"Uh hey, I'm Isaac. I'm new here." He leaned in a bit closer to her as he whispered lowly. The girl seemed to be holding her breath as she slowly turned her head to look in his direction.

Isaac inhaled sharply as his eyes made contact with her bright golden ones. Isaac stared at her, seemingly lost in the map that was her beautiful eyes. For a moment, he forgot everything that he was taught. All of the legends that he was told around a campfire just completely left his mind as he stared at the beauty in front of him.

The brunette opened her mouth and Isaac knew she was preparing herself to say something. He leaned forward a bit more in order to hear whatever it was that she was going to say. He was so busy staring at her full bottom lip to notice how she leaned back and tensed her jaw for a moment.

"My name is Angel, Angel Cullen. It's nice to meet you." Her voice sounded strangled, tortured. She gave him a small, tense smile before she slowly turned to stare up at the front once again.

Isaac leaned away from her, facing forward as his shoulders slumped downward. He knew that there was a very good chance that he was going to run into one of them, but he didn't know it would be so soon. Once she had told him her last name, all of those old campfire legends came rushing right back.

He was desk partners with a vampire.
