The night was silent when Rachel had got in the van with Andy, Pete and Patrick. Joe had been at the wheel ready to set off as soon as everyone had said their goodbyes.
As the van set off the sun began to rise and the sky began to brighten but in the van there was something darker rising. It was rising in Rachel and now she knew that her father had wanted to call her Lucrezia for a reason, that it had been a sign of her destiny.
"Where are we going?" Rachel's voice cut through the silence of the van.
"Chicago" Pete's voice was cold and certain but sadness and the slightest bit of fear edges his eyes.
"Rachel..."
"Please, call me Lucrezia." Rachel cut Andy off.
"Fine, Lucrezia, you know this is going to be dangerous right. There is no way back now." Andy spoke as if he was hoping Rachel would change her mind and leave while she still had the chance but the unsaid was hanging in the air. There was no way back for any of them now. None of them could leave.
"I've had to watch my friends almost get killed. My friends question my sanity. And say goodbye to my friends. There is no way in hell I am leaving now." Her voice was confident and for the first time so was she. Rachel buzzed with all the strength of her words. They were words she stood by. Words she would now live by.
"But, why did you really come with us Rachel?" Pete asked looking to her. To the head laid on her lap.
"I said call me Lucrezia, that's my name after all. And I came because I want to find out what's happening. I want to understand my own life. I want to help."
Pete didn't push the subject, he knew some part of Lucrezia had come simply because of the connection she had formed with Patrick back at the house. He just replied "Okay."
The rest of the journey was spent in silence. The only noises where Patrick groaning from the pain where Kelsey had stabbed him in self-defence. Although Lucrezia had tried to cover the wound she could still tell that it was bleeding badly and they needed to hurry if Patrick was gong to survive the night.
"We need to get somewhere and stitch Patrick's wound." Lurcezia's voice was quite but Pete and Andy knew what she had said. Joe was too focused on the road to hear.
"We'll fix it soon. Just, make sure he stays conscience." Pete said without a flicker of emotion. "By the way. I don't really like Lucrezia, mind if I just call you Luce instead? It's much easier."
"Yeah, whatever. Luce, Lucrezia, I don't care. Just not Rachel. That life is gone and so has she!"
