Kaitlyn's mom sighs and smiles as she shakes her head. Katie shakes her own head, kicking herself out of her memory bank. She can feel her cheeks grow red as her mom laughs. Katie remembers what she got her phone for and unlocks it. She grins as she reads the millions of messages from Addy.
Addy: Hey Katie. : )
Addy: Good morning!
Addy: Would you like to go to the mall today?
Addy: I've heard Isaac will be there. ; )
Addy: Hello?
Addy: Answer me, you shucking slinthead.
Addy: What good is having a bff who doesn't respond to their texts?
Addy: I give up.
Addy: I'm asking Teresa if she wants to come.
The messages went on like this for what seems like forever. Katie almost laughs out loud at the last message. AS IF she would ask Teresa to come. When Kaitlyn finishes reading the messages, she composes a message for Adeline.
Kaitlyn: Geez Addy. Calm down! Lol that sounds great! I'll let my mom know. I'll be over in like 10 minutes. : )
Addy's response comes through almost immediately.
Addy: Wonderful! I'll c u in 10 minutes! I'm timing you, btw. ; )
Kaitlyn: lol when have you not? K! C u soon! Love ya. Bye!
Addy: Love you too Katie. 10 minutes! Don't be late! Bye!
Kaitlyn smiles down at her phone, then looks up at her mom. "Addy and I are gonna go to the mall. That okay?" She asks, her pleading eyes trying to convince her mom, as if she needs convincing.
"Of course!" Katie smiles and thanks her. She's about to walk off when her mom adds, "But. You have to keep your phone on! Text me when you leave the mall. Bring money to buy food! Love you."
Katie grins and rolls her eyes at her mom. "Obviously I'll keep my phone on. And I'll bring my purse."
Her mom jokes, "Well with that attitude I think you may just have to stay home."
"Mom!" Katie laughs.
Her mom chuckles, "It was a joke." She waves her off. "Have fun. Tell Mrs. Clark I said hi."
Katie was walking off, but she pokes her head back in when her mom says that last part, "I will. Love you!" She runs to her room. Katie excitedly opens her closet and searches for an outfit. "Let me think. Athletic or fancy? Casual? Oh shuck. What do I wear?" Eventually, she decides on two outfits, but can't pick between them. An idea occurrs to her, "I could text Addy! She always knows what to wear." She grabs her phone and texts Adeline.
Katie: HURRY! FASHION CRISIS! WHAT DO I WEAR?
Addy: CALM THE SHUCK DOWN KATIE! Lol what are you deciding on?
Katie sends her a picture of the two outfits.
Katie: Outfit #1:
Katie: Outfit #2:
Adeline: Oooh oooh. Tough decisions. I love it! Ummmm. I say Outfit #1! It's so cute and SOOO YOU!
Katie: Wooh. Thanks! You're a lifesaver!
Adeline: I know I am. Lol
Katie: Oh shut it lol c u soon!
Adeline: C u soon!
Katie grins and throws her phone on her neatly made bed. She grabs Outfit #1 and quickly gets dressed. Not wanting to leave her room a mess, she swiftly cleans up. Surveying the room, she approves its cleanliness. Not wanting to wait another second, she grabs her purse and phone and runs downstairs. She pokes her head into the living room, where her mom sits on the couch with her waffle. "Hey mom," she walks over to her. "You okay?" Katie sits next to her, and wraps an arm around her.
Her mom looks up at Katie, her eyes wet and sparkling. "What? Oh," she wipes her eyes, "Yeah I'm doing great honey." She gives her a small smile, but Katie can tell it's forced and fake.
Kaitlyn looks at her sympathetically, and gives her a squeeze. "Okay. Love you. I'll text you." She gets up and walks to the door. Katie hesitates for a second and looks back to her mom, who already has a blank expression on her face. "Bye mom." With a final wave, she walks out the door. Katie runs next door and doesn't bother knocking. She walks right through the door and announces, "I'm home!"
"KATIE!" A grinning, bubbly Addy runs downstairs and envelopes Katie into a gigantic hug.
Katie hugs her back and laughs, "I just saw you yesterday!"
Adeline chuckles and replies, "Well that's still too long!" She pulls back and asks, "So, you ready?" She holds her arm out.
Katie smiles, "Of course Madame." She links her arm in Addy's.
Addy calls to her mom, "MOM! KATIE'S HERE! CAN WE LEAVE SOON?"
Mrs. Clark yells back, "I KNOW! I HEARD HER COME IN!" She walks into the room, a smirk plastered on her face. "And yes, we can leave in... let's say five minutes? Does that work for you girls?"
Kaitlyn replies, "That sounds lovely Mrs. Clark." She then remembers what her mom told her, "Oh yeah, and my mom says hi and thank you."
Mrs. Clark waves her off, "Oh no problem. You're practically family. In fact, where's my hug?" She gives a blushing Katie a hug. "So five minutes, then we'll leave!" She walks back into the kitchen.
Addy turns to Katie and rolls her eyes. "I swear." Her face lights up, "Oh! I need to show you this new dress I want to get!" She turns and runs up the stairs, not bothering to wait for Katie. Katie giggles and follows Addy to her room.
