Sweaty guys, screaming fan girls, people crowded around the front in hopes that someone on stage will notice them, girls with VIP lanyards swearing the lead singer is theirs, people in love with the music and the people who don't give a shit.
I was one of the people who didn't give a shit because yeah, the music was okay but I came because my little sister, Rae wanted to come to a Breathe Carolina concert in this smoke-filled, sweatshop club. Sure, the music was great the display was great but I was more into the rock music. Not this popish music that somewhere in seattle over aged frat boys were dancing to.
"Daniel, ohmygosh look at them! This is so amazing!" Rae said in an excited voice. She was my 15 year old sister and I was her 20 year old brother, trying to make it big in the music business by singing in his parents garage, drink alchohol illegally, smoke like a chain smoker supposed to be 'role model'
"I see them, I'm standing right here with blonde idiot 1&2 shrieking over here!" I told her, glaring at two girls, faces painted on and clothes...well there wasn't much of them. I swear to god when I agreed to bring her I didn't expect these crazy little fangirls shrieking. "For Christ's sake shut up will you?!" I shouted at them which only made them giggle.
I told Rae I'd be back and to do whatever and call me if she wanted me. So after that I made my way out of the crowd and to the bar where they only served energy drinks, soda, and water. "One water." I said as the girl working gave me it.
There was the area in the back, cool, cleared of all the smoke, and no screaming girls.
That was the moment I saw her. She wasn't far from the little isolationist section I was in; she was dancing with some guys and a couple other girls. Her hips moved and her hair swayed perfectly, her every move broken down by the strobe lights. Thats exactly the way she was forever printed in my mind and I had to know her.
I threw the water away and made my way over the girl that seemed to have the music speak to her. "Hey." I said, looking down at her curiously, wanting to know more of her. Her big, doll looking brown eyes gazed up at me as she told me hello.
"Dance with me?" She said and I nodded and she hung herself on me and we danced. And not the almost having sex kind of dancing over half the kids here were doing.
The concert was over in the next hour and the time seemed to pass. We made our way outside, the heat lifting off our bodies to smoke in the air.
"I never did catch your name." She spoke, her voice much like a child's in an energetic, curious way.
"Daniel. Daniel Gallagher. You?" I told her, not taking my eyes off the perfection infront of me. Something was different, special about her in a way I couldn't describe. It was incredible.
"Arianna Gates. But call me Ari." She said and I watched as a boy whistled, and a few girls yelled her name, motioning for her to get into the car. "I've got to go. I live in Pennsylvania, I hope to see you again someday though." She said as she wraped her arms around me and gave me a kiss on my cheek. She ran to the car and got in.
Pennsylvania....she lives in Pennsylvania and I'm in California. Fate is deffinetaly not on my side.
