Perrie's POV
I woke up early this morning and quietly snuck out of bed so I didn't disturb Zayn. This morning Little Mix is performing at the London's Children's Hospital to play for the children that unfortunately have to spend Christmas there this year. The girls and I will be doing a small performance then we would give them some presents that we picked out special for them.
I quickly got dressed and ate a small breakfast. And soon enough, the limo arrived at the flat to take the girls and me to the hospital.
When I got inside I saw all the girls in there. They all looked half asleep still. "Good morning, ladies." I said as I climbed into the limo. "Good morning, Per." Jesy said, as she took a sip of coffee. "Everyone looks lively this morning." I said, letting out a small giggle. "It’s way too early." Leigh-Anne groaned. "But at least we're up for a good cause. Just think of all the little kids that we're doing it for." Jade said. "It breaks my heart to see kids in the hospital for Christmas. They don't deserve it. They should be at home opening their presents under the Christmas tree, with their families." Jesy said. "Well I'm glad we get to do this for them." I finally said, as I thought about all the kids.
We arrived to the hospital and were brought directly upstairs to where all the kids we waiting. They were all so excited to see us and we were really glad to be there.
We played them a few songs then handed out the gifts we brought for them. After all that, the girls and I were able to walk around to all the kids and get some one-on-one time with the kids and their families. I met a lot of kids and families, and most of their stories of why they're in the hospital broke my heart.
Once I finished talking with one family, I saw a little girl sitting on the floor, off to the side, snuggling to get a new doll out of a box. I walked over to her and knelt beside her. "Need help?" I asked her. She looked up at me, with her bright blue eyes opened wide. She shook her head and handed me the doll. "So what's your name, sweetie?" I asked her, as I tried to get the doll opened. "Alexa." She said plainly, but in the sweetest, little voice I have ever heard. "Hi, Alexa. I'm Perrie." I said, giving the little a smile. "I saw you sing." She said, returning a smile back. "How do you think I did?" I asked, trying to make a little conversation with her. "Good." She said, smiling. I gave her the doll, that I had finished opening, and began to stand up. "Wait! Can you play with me?" She asked, looking up at me. I looked around the room and looked back down. "Sure. I would love to." I said, as I sat back down beside her.
While I played with Alexa, she started to open up to me. She wasn't as shy as she was before. She actually didn't want me to leave her, but I had to go home to Zayn. I really didn't want to leave her but I had no choice. I felt like I grew a connection with this girl and I didn't want to break it by leaving.
Unfortunately it was time to leave. I said goodbye to Alexa and she gave me a big hug. "Bye, Perrie. Thank you for my new dolly." She said. "You're welcome sweetheart. Hope you have fun." I said. I started to walk away but looked back at Alexa. She was already sitting back down on the floor playing with her doll.
I met up the girls at the lobby of the hospital. We started to head out, until someone stopped us. "Wait, girls." A lady, dressed in a nurse’s uniform, said walking towards us. "Hi girls. My name is Natalie and I'm the head nurse here at the hospital and I just wanted to thank you girls for coming to perform for the children." The lady said to us. "Not a problem. We had fun doing it." Jade said. "I actually wanted to talk to you Perrie, alone if that's all right." Natalie said to me. "Yes of course. Girls you can go to the car if you would like." I said.
The girls went to the car and the nurse had me sit down in the chairs for the lobby and we began our talk. "I'm very impressed with you. You are the only person that has ever gotten Alexa to be that open with someone, since she's gotten here." Natalie said to me. "Oh, wow. All I did was help her open a doll box and played with her for a bit.' I explained to her. "We've tried everything and we've never seen her so happy, so I wanted to thank you." She said. "No problem at all. I was just wondering, why is she here? Is she sick or something?" I asked. "Well, Alexa isn't a patient here. You see about 2 weeks ago, our emergency first responders reported to a sight of a car accident. The car hit a pole but there wasn't much damage. But when the first responders got there, the car was abandoned. The only person that was there, was Alexa and she was sleeping. She was unharmed. Not a scratch or bruise was on her. The next day, the police investigated the car and found a note that said 'We're sorry, Alexa.' So we assumed that her parents don't wish to take care of her anymore. We've kept her here since that day hoping someone would claim her. However, if her parents don't come and get her by next week, Alexa will be going to an orphanage and will be put up for adoption. Her parents will no longer be her guardians." Natalie explained.
I felt my eyes get a little teary. "That poor little girl. She doesn't deserve this at Christmas." I said. "Yes, I know. That's why we're trying to keep her here for as long as possible. If she can't be with her own family, at least she'll be surrounded by other families." She said. "That's so nice. I wish I could do something." I said. "You can help. If it’s not a problem, maybe you can visit Alexa and spend a little time with her." "That would be great. I'll be back tomorrow." I said, standing up from where I was sitting. "Thank you so much Perrie. Alexa will be very happy." Natalie said. I gave her a smile and headed for the door.
Once inside the limo, I didn't say much. All I could think about is little Alexa. That poor girl. I wish I was able to do more than just visit her. It’s obvious that her parents do not wish to care for her, especially if they were willing to stage a car accident. All that girl wants is a family.
