Ola and I walked out of Steak 'n Shake, not saying anything. I am so tired of being treated like this by these white folks!
"Michael?" Ola gently spoke
" What?" I snapped. I sighed
" Sorry ola I'm just angry..."
" It's okay. I was wondering if you were alright..." she asked
" I don't know. I'm just tired of this, I'm a man too yah know! I have rights too! I hope everything dr. King is doing works. I can't take this anymore." I shouted
" I'm sure it will work. Dr. King is a bright man. He's already changed a lot if things, his speeches are so powerful!" Ola said
" Well I'll see you at school tomorrow ola, bye" I said
"Bye Michael "
I walked into my home stomping to my room falling onto my bed, burying my face into my pillow.
" Michael baby you okay?" my mother said through the door.
I didn't answer. " I'm coming in ."
My mother walked in siting on my bed
" You wanna tell me why your upset."
I shook my head as a tear trickled down my face.
" Did something happen in town ?" She asked wiping my tear off my face. I nodded.
" I wasn't even doing anything wrong mother! I was just sitting there with ola!" I said
" Mmmmm"she said waiting for me to go on
" We were just waiting on our food and he ran into the waitress on purpose and food went all over us. then he apologized and I was saying it was alright. then he said not you negro! it was the same guy who yelled at me yesterday! "
" When you ran into that pretty girl? was she there?"
"Yeah. the girl looked embarrassed though, like angry mother. I saw her walk out of the place by her self. she looked upset." I said wiping my face.
"Maybe she felt bad. " My mother said
" Ha I doubt that. " I scoffed
" Baby I'm sorry you have to go through this. Dr. king is trying to make things better for us. we just have to fight. I love you baby , start getting ready for dinner Rebbie bring her family over."
"Okay mother, love you too." I said
I got changed out of the clothes that had food split all over then and washed up. After my mother and sister made dinner we all sat down. It was the whole family which is a lot there's Rebbie and her kids, Tito , Jackie, Jermaine, LaToya , marlon, me , randy and jJanet please mom and Joseph our father.
***********saturday night.
" Mike you comin with us?" my brother Jermaine and our friend bobby asked
" Where to?" I ask
" Where do you think?! Club Soul like every Saturday night!" bobby said
" Yeah I'm coming!" I laughed
