Chapter 2: Poisonous Thoughts
"Go away."
Alois couldn't believe that had been him who had said that to the man, the one who he had been helplessly in love with since the day they met. To leave. To go away. He couldn't bear looking at the man for even one more measly second.
No.
No! His head was right. Claude was a monster. A demon who only left anger and sadness and destruction wherever they went. The man was only using the Trancy boy for his soul. Nothing else. He did not love him, nor would he ever.
If Claude had loved him, he would have said something, given it had already been four years. Four years of silently crying out and begging for the man to fall in love with a worthless little blonde. Four years of grinding his teeth and doing everything in his power to please the larger man, even trying to seduce Claude's obsession, Ciel Phantomhive, so he would follow Alois right into the spider demon's grasp.
Maybe if he'd tried harder, Claude would love him.
Maybe if he'd been a virgin, Claude would have loved him.
Maybe if Alois's feelings didn't switch from polar opposites every damn second, the man would love him.
Maybe..
"Just go away. Please.. Go prepare another meal, and take your time on this one. As much as you need." The blonde haired Noble ordered shakily climbing to his feet, using the back of the chair for support.
"One hand. Pull yourself up. Not too fast!
Yes. Just like that. Don't make it seem like your desperate for his attention, stupid," the voices began, taunting him with high voices.
"Nice job. You stood up on your own. Wow. what a great achievement. Pfff. Like that would impress him."
With one last sidelong glance over at the demon as he passed, Alois kept his head down the entire time, striding quickly from the room without another word.
[ Claude's POV ]
The larger man almost stumbled back when the harsh reality of the boy's words had hit him, almost like a slap to the face. Claude raised a hand and rubbed the spot on his cheek gingerly, making sure the young boy couldn't see how much that had hurt.
Go away?
Leave the little blonde boy whom he had taken such an interest in?
How?
Of course, Claude was used to being away from his Highness, but at times like those, he had surrounded himself with chores and cleaning. After he had run out of things to clean, he'd clean each and every surface and object again and again and again until the little noble called for him.
And a feeling deep within his chest, where his heart was supposed to be, would flutter.
Oh, how he wanted only to press his lips against the boy's delicate ones and hold him close, and just tell him how he was going to be okay. The large man wanted to snake strong arms around the petite child's waist and spin him around and shower him in gentle kisses.
But he couldn't.
It just wasn't right.
Alois was a human, and Claude was demon. He was a butler, and the boy was his master. A man of more than 1000 years and a child of mere 15. It wasn't normal. It wouldn't work.
But somewhere, deep inside of him, Claude held onto this silly delusion where Alois would admit his love for the man. That he would not have to consume Alois's soul, like the laws if their contract enforced. That they would both live happily together and Claude would finally feel like the thing he wanted to be most of all:
Human.
But demons didn't have feelings, or at least, were not supposed to show them.
And Claude was not willing to start.
With an expression set like stone and his head bowed ever so slightly, Claude repeated the familiar words as a reassurance to himself, more than anything. Those three familiar words.
"Yes, your Highness."
